The Supertourist: Temple Fielding. The beginning of the linked article is no help in explaining who the hell this oddly-drawn man is.
Apparently he said “As a member of an escorted tour, you don’t even have to know the Matterhorn isn’t a tuba.” (Thanks, Google!) That seems to be the most (or possibly the only) interesting thing about this schmoe.
I smell a metaphor about my own life, and frankly, sir, I don’t like it.
Time: The New York Mets: Baseball’s Wunderkinder (starring a kid with a jiffy-pop brain)
Life: Peter Max: Portrait of the artist as a very rich man (possibly the 'zine-iest cover they ever did)
At 15, I remember that cover all to vividly and all the coverage that went with it…the footage of the helicopter flying overhead taking pictures and recording it. I think that was my first time that I had seen pictures of dead people of that magnitude if not at all.
Good thing your mom didn’t hold back a week later.
As for me:
Time had Averell Harriman.
Life had some LA guy named Sandy.
General Suharto and how the commies lost Indonesia.
Apparently they decided to forgo JFK’s “After” pics…
Your birthday is January 12 as well? Lovely, if so - mine is but I guess they didn’t have a cover for that day.
Anyway, here is what turned up: A 1968 Tribute. It’s cool because that is my favorite single year in modern history that I have studied, even though I never got a chance to live it. Great graphics, too.
The day after I was born was The 80’s Look! Brooke Shields
She looks gorgeous as always but I could do without the ‘gag me with a spoon’ lacey crap.
Playboy’s Hugh Hefner
Buncha Republican midterm election winners. And me a Democrat. Sheesh.
My cover was Gross.
Someone with a rather disturbinggetup. No clue who he is.
And apparently he’s bigger news than the Shah of Iran (shortly before his overthrow).
Bueller?
Yeah, I was worried Raygun was going to be on mine. I lucked out with Brooke Shields.
Happy birthday, Balle_M!
Mine is Uber lame. Nixon and Kissinger headed to Peking.
Mine was the North Vietnamese victory.
Sometimes a missile is just a missile…
I get Henry Kissinger. Lucky me.
Cool! Rowan and Martin
Inside: at least two articles featuring Philip Glass and speculation over whether designer Hawaiian shirts will become the next big trend.
