What was that again? Misread sentences

I’m not dyslexic, in that I don’t transpose numbers or letters (often anyway), but sometimes I’ll read a sentence in a way that takes a completely different meaning.

For instance, I saw a truck on the road some years ago, and the company slogan was “We Go the Distance”. Now that makes sense for a freight company, right? But I (too quickly) read it as “We Got the Disease”, and had to do a double take.

This morning, a headline I read was really “BC fires coach for meeting with Jets”, but I (again too quickly) read it as “BC fires coach for meeting with Jesus”.

I had to laugh at the implications.

Does that happen to anyone else? If so, please share.

Oh yes, it happens to me quite often. Just today (and I swear I am not joking) I read the title of the thread “Canada short of workers?” as “Canada short of wankers?”

I thought, “Truly, I have finally found a country in need of my unique abilities.”

It usually happens to me with thread titles on the Dope…

My single favorite one was when a friend of mine walked into my dorm room in college where I was reading a newspaper, squinted at the headline, then said “Hospital president to strip down?!

This was one of my more grounded-in-reality friends, too.

I spent the entire time I was reading Neil Gaiman’s Ananci Boys expecting them to end up in Arizona with some pueblos.

Same here. There was a thread posted not too long ago titled, “Is it safe to swallow gum?” I guess I have a dirty mind.
