I don’t mean just receintly, I mean throughout your entire life. For me, I believe the greatest Love story Ive ever seen was the old 1950’s version of “Ulysses” with Kirk Douglas starring as Ulysses. I will never forget the way that movie ended. For those that remember it, that final homcoming scene was one that I will remember forever. What made it even better was that while watching this movie, I had the radio turned on rather low, and right at the end of this movie, the radio DJ played this song called “You’re the greatest thing that ever hapened to me” by Gladis knight and the Pips". I’ have to admit that ever since then I’ve seen only a small handful of movies that could ever compare to it. Do you have any that you remember? What were they and how did they effect your life?
Correction: The title should have read… “What was the greatest Love story you’ve ever seen” Sorry about that
Frank Sinatra called the George Harrison’s ‘Something’ the best love song of the last fifty years.
He also consistently said it was written by John Lennon.
Sorry, I had a song in mind when I opened the thread, and by gum, I’m going to stick with it:
“Good Enough For Now” by Weird Al.
“You’re the woman that I’ve always dreamed of.
Well, not really. But you’re good enough for now.”
I’ve always been partial to Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton.
As for movies, I always thought the love story in Forrest Gump was about as touching as it gets.
Either Manyd or Wildfire. Or maybe My Girl Bill.
D & R…

Sorry, I mean Mandy!
F****d up Girl, by the Vandals.
Annie’s Song, by John Denver. (rather, that’s one of them)
Of course, that may or may not have something to do with my name.
Tenacious D - F**k her Gently
:wipes away tear:
…I’m kidding, I’m kidding.
Honestly though it would have to be Damien Rice - I Remember. He sounds crap but the first two minutes with the woman singing are just beautiful.
:wipes away tear for real:
There’s something about At My Most Beautiful by REM that just hits me right in the heart.
“They Can’t Take That Away From Me” by George Gershwin. The only other songs to come close are Gershwin’s “Someone to Watch Over Me” and Porter’s “I Get a Kick Out of You.”
Moving this to Cafe Society.
“I’ve Got The Magic Stick” by 50 Cent.
It’s a song, but - “Stand Inside Your Love” by the Smashing Pumpkins.
“Black” from Pearl Jam as a close second, if you can consider that a love song.
Your the only woman By Ambrosia
Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground by Willie Nelson
I was in a relationship with a guy that had some problems. Some of those problem caused us to have a rather stormy relationship. And whether we were together or not we stayed friends. Towards the end of our time together we ran into each other at the bar. The band began to play this song and he looked at me and smiled in a sad way and said this song always made him think of me.
My other favorite is Laura Brannigan’s I’m Your Lady or whatever the name of it is.
As for movies…I’m partial to The Princess Bride.
As far as the song, easy. It’s got to be the live version of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”.
For song, I’d have to go with Loreena Mckennitt’s The Dark Night of the Soul. Or Dead Can Dance’s version of I am Stretched on Your Grave.
“Adore” by Prince.
