What was the last movie you saw that made you say "WTF?"

Never mind the church scene in Kingsman, it was the sign offthat made me go WTF.

Edit: not sure it is the sign off actually, but i meant the bit with the princess and her, erm, you know what.

She did promise…

But the mid-credits scene was Eggsy back in the pub with his mother and the gang.

This thread is timely for me because I watched Joker (2019, directed by Todd Phillips) last night and found it to be as disturbing as it is well crafted. The kind of impression that lingers on the next day like a nasty smell. I won’t rehash it here, because most of you have probably seen it. I’ll just say that I’m usually turned off quickly by morbid exploitation of mental illness: “Ewww, look how crazy he is!” There’s that in this film but also a whole lot more, and it sure as hell isn’t a comic-book movie (paraphrasing Cartooniverse in the “Movies you’ve seen recently” thread). Perhaps more disturbing are the conflicted feelings the film imparts, because you end up sympathizing with the main character at times. YMMV, of course.

Oh. That one.

Um… what was that???

Well, that was a spider, of course.

Or a metaphor for his issues with women, his mother in particular.

But it is one damn weird movie.

Huh. I know almost nothing about women, and now I know less.

I came out of that film thinking it was massively in debt to King of Comedy, and later read Taxi Driver was a big influence as well. The fact Robert de Niro is in it is just a big wink to the audience.

Yeah, I’ve read that in reviews and viewers’ comments. I’ve haven’t seen The King of Comedy, although I’ve just had a look at the Wikipedia plot summary, and parts of it sound too similar to what I saw in Joker. If you’ve seen both, do you feel that Joker copied those elements too obviously? I’ve seen Taxi Driver a few times and am not bothered by those similarities, as they’re not too specific and blatant. Parallels could be probably be drawn with most stories about a delusional stalker/killer.

Of all the creepy scenes in Joker, I though the most chilling moment is the last thing that Phoenix’s character says to De Niro’s. (Let’s just leave it at that without spoiling/spoilering it for anyone.) As I recall, the line doesn’t even stand out clearly in the mix, because there’s a lot of other noise and commotion. WTF.

Goodnight Mommy
The Lobster
The killing of a sacred deer

All super weird. I’d only rate Goodnight Mommy as worth seeing, the others are just too melancholy.
