What was the latest song you replayed right after listening?

I finally bought the Simon and Garfunkel Central Park album on CD so I listened to “America” a few times in a row. "Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike…"ROAR from the crowd!

And “Mary Mac” from Carbonleaf…I love that song!

Back in December the band Silversun Pickups appeared on Letterman and performed the song Lazy Eye. Hadn’t heard the song or even the band before but it was a rare “wow…this is really interesting” moment for me upon first hearing a song.

I was taken by their sound but also their look, both of which seemed to be a very deliberate homage to the Smashing Pumpkins who were my favorite band back when. I rewound the segment on my DVR a couple of times.

Dinner Lady Arms - by The Darkness, from the album One Way Ticket to Hell… And Back

I just love the sound of this song. They were a great band, the songs rocked, the lyrics were often hilarious, the stage theatrics were fun… Man it sucks they’re gone. Here’s hoping whatever Justin Hawkins does next is good!

That one Tom Petty song… You know, the one where he doesn’t enunciate very well?

“Issalri if you lov,
Isalri if you doe.
I na afrai oh you runnin away…”

Breakdown! That was it. Had to listen to that one where he does enunciate a couple of times right before that
Refugee -
“Somewhere, somehow somebody
Must have kicked you around some
Who knows, maybe you were kidnapped
Tied up, taken away and held for ransom”
I swear that man must have taken singing lessons from Bob Dylan.

I do this all the time…I also sometimes stick a song on repeat for a dozen or so listens…

The last repeated listen I have is Jig the Upper by Hoi Festa.

Which I’m very tempted to turn on, now… >_>

“Upon This Tidal Wave of Young Blood” by “Clap Your Hands Say Yeah”, which I found browsing through iTunes. I hadn’t even heard of the song or the band but I was interested by the apparent discrepancy between the happy, lighthearted band name and the rather morbid title of the song. Anyway, I’m happy with the song, and yeah, I have replayed it several times.

O Holy Night from Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
I played that one over and over and over. For days.

I’m glad I am not the only one. I hardly ever let my MP3 selections just cruise right along. I listen to the first 15 seconds of lots of songs and then switch to the next song figuring I got what I wanted out of it. Once I find a song that strikes the right mood that day, I will listen to it over and over until it gets burned out and then I have to open up the auditions yet gain.

I think listened to “Private Conversation” by Lyle Lovett many times in a row today.

Does it count if it’s only a clip of a song? The band VNV Nation just released clips from their first album and I’ve found myself listening to the clip for “Testament” multiple times in a row.

“Shut Up I am Dreaming of Places Where Lovers Have Wings” by Sunset Rubdown. I replayed the whole thing too, depsite the fact that it’s nearly seven and a half minutes…but I love Spencer Krug that much.

As an aside, I think “Hold On, Hold On” is my favorite song from Fox Confessor.

Third Weird Al mention of the thread: “Polkarama.” It’s his version of “Somebody Told Me” that really gets to me. And the Pussycat Dolls, of course.

Beyonce’s Irreplacable, on my ipod Shuffle.
Normally, I don’t listen to this type of music (although I do loves me some Mary J. Blige), but this is a great song if you’re in the midst of a break up. “To the left, to the left- everything you own in a box to the left”, and “I can find another you in a minute, matter of fact he’ll be here in a minute”… aahh yeah, boy. Those are some wise words, right there.

Eriatarkas by The Mars Volta. I came across this song among the mp3s in a Killer’s album my brother lent me and I couldn’t get enough of it. I was listening to it over and over, occasionally even stopping working to listen to some parts of it. I have now got my hands on the album (“Deloused in the Comatorium”) and it’s already one of my favourite albums of all time. I haven’t listened to anything else in weeks. I NEED to get more of this band!

I came in to say that I’ve recently repeated Krug’s “I’ll Believe in Anything,” off of his album with Wolf Parade. He’s an amazing songwriter.

I’ve also repeated much of the latest Camera Obscura album, “If Looks Could Kill” in particular.

Girl Talk,” by Bobby Troup, the Los Angeles songwriter best known for “Route 66.” The original version, with Troup singing the hilarious lyrics over his own piano, plus a stellar group of 1950’s L.A. cool cat musicians on guitar, electric organ, and valve trombone.

Reason number one, the hilarious lyrics. I can’t find them online so I have to learn them the old fashioned way, by playing the song over and over so’s I can memorize.

Reason number two: THAT GORGEOUS GODDAMN MELODY. The above link will take you to a fairly straightforward ballad reading by hard-bop jazz trombonist Curtis Fuller. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Cooksferry Queen - Richard Thompson

He gets a lot of repeats, but that’s the latest.

I listened to “Theme” by Arovane about 20 times in a row last night. A few days before that, it was “don’t know” by Wai-Chi, who I can’t even find any other songs by. That one was on a future sound of jazz compilation.

“Intervention” by the Arcade Fire… it’s from their upcoming album, and I found a live clip on YouTube (legally! from Pitchfork Media. There are some better quality versions, though I don’t know if they violate copyright or what.)

Anyways, it’s an amazing song, as might be expected from the Arcade Fire. I listened to it about 5 times in a row when I stumbled upon it… Just gorgeous.

“Sweat” by Usura. I had gotten my subwoofer working, and it’s a good one to test it out.

Either Wickeder or Taylor, the Latte Boy
