What was this "monster-mash" like cartoon from the 60-70's?

I remember regularly watching a cartoon, during the 70’s, that featured all of the “Universal” type monsters in it. IIRC, it was sort of a spin off of Archie, and Josie & The Pussycats, but I could be mistaken.

Anyone know the name of this show?

The Groovie Ghoulies?

Groovy Ghoulies?

YES! That’s it! Thanks, folks.

That was The Groovie Ghoulies.

Damn you all!

When I caught the front page of this forum, there was one view and no replies. I click on the thread, and there are TWO of you ahead of me.

Yeah…um, Groovy Ghoulies. It was part of the Archie/Sabrina/Josie & the Pussycats pantheon.

Wolfie had a kickass car.

I prefered Milton The Monster.

I should (of course) probably mention that it was a show called the “Groovy Ghoulies.”

In 1960. For twenty minutes.

Oh, and now the OP gets in ahead of me, too?

Death ray in the 1920s style, I burning your dog!

Egads, I remember Milton too. (haven’t thought of that toon in YEARS)
As I remember, Milton was a bit of a wimp, rather Casper-Ish, looking for a friend.
Can anyone rembember the theme? I just remember the last line…

I’m MILTON, your brand new Son…

*Now Sigmund the Sea Monster and Johnny and Scott are friends
The finest friends there ever could be
On the land or in the sea…

holds up a mirror, deflecting death ray back to sender :stuck_out_tongue:

Anybody remember when they played “Chick-a-boom” on the Groovie Ghoulies?

Are you referring to the infamous song from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” or is this a different song, with a similar name?

No, he’s referring to Rio, popularly known as having been sung by Duran Duran.

Milton always reminded me of Gomer Pyle – people were expecting him to be tough and scary, but he was just a laid-back bumpkin.

I remember one episode where he had been cornered and was being fired at by police and military forces. Milton responded by hollering between volleys, “Your father wears dirty sneakers!”

The theme was sung by two Frankenstein/Dracula types laboring over the creation of a monster.

I can’t remember it all, but the lines just before “… your brand new son” were:

Monster 1: Better hold your breath, it’s starting to tick.
Monster 2: Better hold my hand, I’m feeling sick.

(Milton sits up, and says something like, “Hi Daddy!”).

Monster 1: What have I done?!

I managed to find the lyrics here.

I’m trying to find a FREE mp3 of this, but no luck yet.

Blarg, I say…BLARG! I have just within the last couple of weeks run across a reference to the fact that this song was made a hit due to this very show (Chick-a-boom, chick-a-boom, doncha just love it? Chick-a-boom, chick-a-boom, don’t YOU just love it? Chick-a-boom, chick-a-boom, doncha just love it? Chick-a-boom-chick-a-boom-boom-boom!)

I CANNOT for the life of me remember where I came across this, but (and alcohol may have been involved…not to mention penis ensuing) I heard somewhere recently that the Groovy Ghoulies was the first venue for this piece, which went on to be a mid-60’s hit.

Just for reference: bzwilak’s question–Ferris Bueller came WAY after this song.

Oh, and [Xiaolin Showdown Voice]: "Reversing Mirror![/ESV]

Wow. Can’t believe it’s been almost nine years since anyone mentioned “Milton the Monster.” Anyway, back in 2005, youtube was in its infancy, and didn’t have clips like Milton the Monster. There was also a closing song that was different, that might possibly have been sung by Thurl Ravenscroft (but that remains unconfirmed).

^ I don’t think it sounds like Mr. Ravenscroft, IMHO. Isn’t it funny how Milton says. “Brought to you by…” at the end of both theme songs?

If you’re not careful, I’ll mention “The Wacky Racers” and you can all derail the thread. (Oops)
