What Was Your Favourite Cartoons As A Child?

This. Except that I’m 42. Some of the also-rans were Scooby-Doo, but only the first season or two, which focused on scares and not stupid sidekicks. The Pink Panther. Tom and Jerry.

As an older kid/adult, I really like Rocky & Bullwinkle. I even liked the movie!

The Muppet Babies were at the top.

When I was a kid, I remember thinking that the best cartoons were on ABC, followed by CBS and then NBC. Looking at some random Saturday morning lineups from the 80s, though, I don’t know why I thought this. Other than Bugs Bunny, Laff-A-Lympics and the Real Ghostbusters (all ABC), I think anything that I’d want to watch now would have been on CBS.

EDIT: I’m 32, to give a frame of reference.

“There’s No Such Thing as a Sea Serpent” from Beany and Cecil. To me, this was the greatest ever.

I always watched the *Magilla Gorilla *show after school at maybe 8-10 years old. This included the titular shorts, as well as Peter Potamus; Mushmouse & Punkinpuss; Breezley & Sneezely; Yippie, Yappie, & Yahooie; and some others. I recall being quite fond of them, but looking back they weren’t really all that good. *Speed Racer *was also a favorite.

I got into Jay Ward when I got older.

I must have had a very similar (obviously Canadian) childhood. But although I watched gobs and gobs of RRH and Mighty Hercules, that doesn’t mean that they were great (then or now). The rare occasion that I got to see “Super Friends” or something like that was like a trip to paradise.

Scooby Doo
Fat Albert
The Roadrunner
Flinstones
Jetsons

Star Blazers, on TBS.

Looney Tunes (esp. Road Runner & Coyote)
Voltron
Robotech (esp. Macross Saga)
Jetsons
Inspector Gadget
Snorks

Bugs Bunny
Jonny Quest
Scooby Doo

Speed Racer
Kimba the White Lion
Pink Panther

Bugs Bunny, et. al.
Rocky & Bullwinkle, et. al.
Underdog
Mighty Mouse
Pink Panther
Flintstones
Jetsons

Not much love in the thread for Disney cartoons. I guess because they weren’t on Saturday morning TV.

When my daughter was a tyke and VCR rentals were in vogue, we’d rent tons of old Disney compilations which I’m sure she would list as her childhood favorites even though they were made even before my childhood. She grew up with afternoon episodes of Goof Troop, Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, Rescue Rangers, etc. but enjoyed the old Micky and Donald and Goofy and Pluto shorts. They aren’t particularly edgy (yeah, like kids care ) but are well-drawn, richly colored, scored by pros, and still enjoyable.

When I was very young, Voltron. As I got a bit older, the Disney Afternoon (Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, Tail Spin, etc.), and Animaniacs. I also liked the Transformers and the Go-Bots, but hardly ever watched them… I think they must have been on before I got home from school, or something.

As a wee little kid:
Muppet Babies
The Littles
Garfield
Scooby Doo
Thunder Cats & He Man (though mostly because boys I was friends with liked them)

As an older kid-young teen:
Animaniacs
Tiny Toons
Rocko’s Modern Life
Daria
Darkwing Duck

Looney Tunes, Bullwinkle, Archie, Fat Albert

The worst were the Bozo cartoons.

35 posts in and I’m the first one to mention the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You people sicken me!

Lol, but seriously, in descending order from best to less best:

-TMNT
-Muppet Babies
-Astro Boy (To think I used to get up at 6AM EVERY MORNING to watch this one…)
-Darkwing Duck
-Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers
-Duck Tales
-Disney and Warner Brothers Fare

Older Childhood:
-Beast Wars
-Beavis and Butthead (age 10 onwards)
-Duckman
-Sailor Moon
-The Simpsons
-Doug
-Rocko’s Modern Life
Then there’s a bunch I like in principle, like Samurai Pizza Cats, or ones that I watched a lot because they were Canadian, but were actually the worst pieces of shit imaginable. Really, had someone smeared their feces over some celluloid and played it on CBC, it probably would have annoyed me less than The Raccoons or The Smoggies.

Frankenstein Junior and the Impossibles
The Herculoids
Birdman and the Galaxy Trio
The New Adventures of Superman
Spaaace Ghooost!

I was always into airplanes so Skyhawks was heaven for me. I would snap that up in an instant if it ever was available.

Linus the Lionhearted
Bugs Bunny
Rocky & Bullwinkle
Beanie & Cecil

I loved it when both RRH and Spider-Man fought the red bug guy from Dementia Five!

It was like my own little pre-school acid trip.

Classic 90s Nicktoons:

Rocko’s Modern Life
Hey Arnold!
Rugrats
Angry Beavers
Doug

Others:

Looney Toons (especially Bugs Bunny)
Scooby Doo (but none of that garbage with Scrappy)
Tiny Toons
