Soome folks over in IMHO are discussing what turned them on to “their music.” Along those lines, what is the first recorded music you bought?
For me, Johnny Cash - I Walk the Line
For sis, Iron Butterfly - Innagaddadvida

Yeah, I’m sure that’s misspelled, but if I tried to correct it, I’d undoubtedly just misspell it a different way.
um… the first CD I bought was Smash by The Offspring.
The first tape I bought was Big Shiny Tunes
I started to amass CDs before I got a CD player. By the time I got one, I had 6 CDs. The FIRST of which was Alice Cooper’s Billion Dollar Babies.
I have no idea what my first tape or vinyl purchase was.
I was in the sixth grade. A mere lad. It was 1969. What did I know.
So I bought Disraeli Gears by Cream. Now I’ve got at copy of it on CD. And I still give it a listen every now and again.
Dave

Now I can’t stand most rap music. 'Cept the stuff I like.
Goin down, down baby your street in a Range Rover
Street sweeper baby, ready to let it go
Shimmy, shimmy coco puffs listen to me now
Light it up and take a puff
Pass it to me now
This is my interpretation, your actual words may vary.
Wow, I didn’t think this would task my memory so. But I think it was:
First vinyl: The Clash - London Calling
First cassette: The Grateful Dead - American Beauty
First CD: U2 - The Joshua Tree
Devo, Freedom of Choice, on vinyl, 1980. I was ten.
Oh goody, a chance to show my age. My first music purchase (please bear in mind I was 11 at the time) was a 45 of Billy, Don’t Be A Hero by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods. I assure you, my taste has improved with age!
I purchased two albums simultaneously for my first brush with musical commerce: “Destroyer” by Kiss and “Le Freak” (featuring the hit song “Freak Out”) by Chic. Early evidence of a dichotomy that even today rules my brain.
First LP was Def Leppard Pyromania
First Tape was Dire Straits Brothers in Arms
First CD was Scorpions Blackout (I think)
First 45: Purple People Eater, by Sheb Wooley 197? (Hey! We’re cousins!)
First LP: Queens Greatest Hits, 1982
First CD: Melissa Etheridge, Melissa Etheridge
And I hate cassettes.
First CD: Iron Maiden, Somewhere in Time
I don’t remember the first vinyl I bought, but my first CD was The Police Synchronicity.
