What was your high school class song?

Illegal Smile - John Prine

Although not the official song, everyone was singing it all the time.

we didn’t have a class song. senior prom was “Say Goodbye to Hollywood” (no one was happy about that decision - just goes to further illustrate the heirarchy that was Dance Committee).

we had an alma mater for the entire senior high school that was sung at each graduation (as well as assembly…oy). i refused to sing it. i can’t recall why, though.

(our mascot was the Knight)

*As knights who in the olden times
would pledge their loyalty
to keep their honor shining
and ever true to be
we enter here at North Penn High
with hearts resolved to dare
our noble aim(?) to bring to fame
our alma mater fair. *

some student back in the 80s wrote it, i think. not too shabby. there’s a few other verses, but we only ever sung that one.

Mine was 1999 by Prince and the New Power Generation .

I leave it to you guys to guess what year I graduated.

HA HA HA HA HA HAHAHAHAHA!

I would’ve preferred “Yoda” or “Pretty Fly For a Rabbi” though.

Graduated 1980, our class song was The Famous Final Scene by Bob Seger. The guys in the class who voted it in didn’t realize we’d have to sing it. Luckily, I had mono and felt too lousy to appreciate how truly awful it sounded.

I still can’t stand that song.

That song is originally from 1977 (cite) and happens to be one of my favorites.

Ah, it’s times like these I almost wish I had gone to high school. However, passing my HS equivalency at the age of 16 was mighty sweet.

Class of '89

Our song was Never Say Goodbye by Bon Jovi.

We had to fight for it because the administration didn’t like the line about how You lost more then that it my backseat, baby.

Class of 1976, and I believe no one cared enough to have a class song. It’ll be 30 years since my graduation fairly soon and we have had no reunions of any type. Not that I’m suggesting I want one…

Class of 1991.

‘Love Song,’ by Tesla. On the one hand, I’m so very ashamed. On the other hand, at least I don’t have to worry about ever hearing on the radio.

'98

Also Glory Days. Kinda funny if you actually listen to the words, but anything by the Boss is fine with me.

Class of '01.

Tradition dictates that each graduating class from our school has to appoint a mascot and a song to go along with it. Our mascot was the Quantum Sheep (get it? GET IT? ) and our song was “Baa Baa Baa”, sung to the melody of “Bye Bye Bye”, by the Backstreet Boys or 'N Sync or whatever. Unfortunately, I don’t have the lyrics anywhere, though I wish I did.

Mine too, same year. Florida, by chance?

“Stairway to Heaven.” Of course, I graduated in 1989. Really, truly.

I myself, since we seemed to have a classic rock theme going, nominated “The Wall” by Pink Floyd. We almost got enough votes to win…

Being a punkass teenager, I nominated Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2, and actually convinced most of the students in the classrom I was in when voting took place to vote for it as well.
Unfortunately, our “official” class song was “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly. Some of the senior members of the student govt. apparently didn’t like that, though, and had it changed at the last moment to the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Tonight, Tonight.” Not bad. I like that song.
I graduated in '97.

Geez, I feel old. We all had “Official” songs, full of bad rhymes and schmaltzy lyrics ("Hail, Wauwatosa/ Ever-loyal subjects we…).

But I know the Upper Nyack High School song by heart, because Dan Mahoney used to wake up the entire sophmore class at our frat house at 2 am with “Let’s sing!”

He wouldn’t let us go back to sleep until we all sang a verse “with sincerity”.

Forever Young by Alphaville

They played this at our class slide show presentation as the last song and there wasn’t a dry eye in the auditorium.

1989

I think that the ninnies-that-be officially named the Rod Stewart song for the yearbook though.

Back in the day we didn’t vote on an official class song, but the one that moved us was “American Pie” by Don McLean. Made us feel old and wise, I guess.

Now we are old and wise.

Our unoffifial motto was
“Beer, pot, sex, and booze!
That’s the Class of '72!”

Yep, time for the Geritol.

We’re so old we can’t even spot goofs when we preview. Time to get a new prescription for the bifocals.

That’s “unofficial.”
