What was your high school class song?

Oh, God. I don’t remember. I think it was “We are the Champions” or something corny like that.(class of 1978)

I know that my brothers class voted in “Sex” by Berlin and the administration insisted thay take the song that came in second (I don’t know what song that was though).

I don’t remember voting for a class song. It was like the Magical Class Song Fairy came around one day, waved her wand and we had our class song. My choice would have been “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” by Metallica:

That’s how many of us felt about our restrictive, backwards Catholic high school.

Jeez, where are the rest of the geezers?

Ours was ahem

Born Free

by Andy Willimas

Class of 1967

Sigh.

Thanks for forcing me to remember that.
Just for that, I’m going to start a “What was your class motto?” thread

Luckily I qualified my statement by putting the weasel phrase “at least”…

I admit, I’m not up on my Dylan.

For some reason I remember all the senior songs from my high school days.

Freshman (1995): Smashing Pumpkins, “Today”. A good song.

Sophomore (1996): Supposed to be Oasis, “Champagne Supernova” but nixed by the administration due to the “while we were getting high” line. Replaced by some forgettable Whitney Huston crap that everyone hated.

Junior (1997): Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, “One Sweet Day”. The less said about that, the better.

Senior (1998): Green Day “Time of Your Life (Good Riddance)”. Pretty much sums up how I felt about the whole thing.

Oh and the theme for our senior prom (which I didn’t go to) was “Titanic.”

It’s been five years and that thought still makes me shudder.

The song that won was “School’s Out For Summer” by Alice Cooper.

The song that I voted for (and was an actual nomination) was “Brass Monkey” by The Beastie Boys.

Odd class. 1995.

I’ve got you all beat.

“Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks.

The principal refused to have it played at graduation. That of course did not stop someone from offering their approximation of the Rebel Yell as I recieved my diploma.

I really didn’t fit in at my high school.

Ha! That would rule!

Mine was “Don’t You Forget About Me.” And I graduated in 1996. I didn’t go to the prom, I don’t know why I even remember this. Ah, brain, thank you for keeping useless knowledge safe.

Me:

Now that I think about it, this is pretty ironic, actually.

How about Amish Paradise by Weird Al Yankovich?

That’s what I get for graduating from school in south-central PA in 1996. Still, it beats the hell out of a corny Whitney Houston song or something.

Graduation - May the Music Never End
Homecoming - I’ll Be
Prom - Breathe

I wasn’t crazy about any of the songs, but when the choir sang MtMNE at graduation, a lot of us started tearing up. Sniff. Sniff. Class of 2000.

Our class song, in 1978, was Dust in the Wind, by Kansas.

Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind…

Just the thing for a bunch of fresh-faced youths ready to take on life’s challenges, eh?

Class of 1994 - “Life is a Highway” by Tom Cochrane.

I can’t remember what the other songs on the ballot were, but I know I didn’t want that one and preferred another. But I’m sure none of my nominees ever had a chance. It was usually a song from the past year.

We also had an official “mascot”. Usually a cartoon character, which would be painted onto a wooden plaque and hung in the cafeteria for posterity. Ours was the Tasmanian Devil of Looney Tunes fame. I liked that.

Anyhoo…

Class of '03.

Our high school burned down the summer of senior year, so we went to school in trailers–it’s like this whole big thing. Anyway, our class song was No Such Thing by John Mayer. You know, “I want to run through the halls of my high school…” Makes me cry every time I hear it, but then I’m a sap.

Our prom song was…well. I don’t remember the name, but it was the song from Casper, when human!Casper dances with Christina Ricci. No, I’m not joking, and yes, we did vote on it. My friends and I pushed desperately for Green Day’s Time of Your Life, but to no avail.

We had no official “theme” but at the last assembly we had as seniors the closing song played was The Long and Winding Road. Yeah, I’m old, I graduated in 1973. As a previous poster who graduated the same year said, I have to go take my Geritol now.

Class of '75 here. We didn’t have an official class song, but the one that was used for our summing it all up slide presentation was “We Will Never Pass This Way Again”. We play it at every reunion, so that probably makes it official.

Another old fart checking in.

Ours was Moon River, by the aforementioned and ubiquitous Andy Williams.

Class of ::urk:: 1965.

“Remember Me This Way”

I so hate that song. Hearing it over and over again did nothing to improve my opinion of it, either. I lobbied hard for anything and everything else, from Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life” to “I Hope You Dance.” Just so I wouldn’t have to hear that thing ever again (it had already been used by several previous classes). I lost.

Class of 2001. Bah.

Glory Days - Bruce Springsteen

Class of 2002
