Why is all this Dinsdale guff in this thread? I thought it was for bad posts by posters in good standing. Dinsdale is pure dick, always has been. Just Pit him directly, already.

I note that there are two existing Dinsdale pitting threads. One from 2004 and one from 2007. The latter started by the OP himself in one of his periodic attempts at self-flaggelation as a route to greater self-understanding.
Neither thread drew much attention as these things go. They fizzled out within a month-ish of the OP.
I could have sworn there was a newer pit thread, like in the last 5 years.
All I did was Search results for ‘#the-bbq-pit in:title Dinsdale’ - Straight Dope Message Board. I think we nearly always include the name of the guest of honor in the title of a personal pitting thread. Be kinda hard for anybody else to join the pile-on if they can’t tell who it’s about.
From this search: Search results for ‘#the-bbq-pit Dinsdale in:first’ - Straight Dope Message Board I found that he did start a couple of pit threads, but not about other posters; rather about annoyances in the larger world. In a couple other threads he’s also named in the OP as one of several people holding various unpopular attitudes.

Your search-fu is undoubtedly better than mine. I’ll poke around later when I’m not on my phone, but if it was a thread that didn’t call him out in the title, or it was inside an omnibus thread, oh well.
Dinsdale is a bull in a china shop in mental health related threads. He said had little sympathy for someone suffering from depression if they have a second house, in a thread about anxiety and depression. He has said other inappropriate things in other mental health threads.
If I ever need to go on disability or whatever, I hope I never have a judge like him.
Can you imagine the lawsuits if any of the people who passed in front of his desk ever linked him to his posts here?
I used to avidly read a long-running thread on another board that was essentially war stories told by folks who work in the emergency department of hospitals or work EMS. Lots of “You won’t believe what happened today at work!”
In addition to the medical tales of daring do, and of failures, there was lots of gallows humor and stress defusing going on. I learned a lot. Clearly it helped at least some of the people to vent to peers who got it, and receive supporting noises in return.
As one might expect, there were a couple of characters who sort of turned that thread into a blog / diary. One guy’s hobby horse was the homeless coming in seeking either drugs or just time in a warm building and a sandwich. Over and over and over at astonishing expense and waste of medical resources. He also hated fixing criminals, since somehow they always survived, while crime victims rarely did.
Anyhow one day he disappeared from the thread. A bit later it emerged from a cow-orker that he’d been sued hard for a bad outcome on a criminal patient and the entirely of his contributions to the thread got fed to the jury. And the medical board.
His life was thoroughly upended.
For each of us here, it’s easy to believe we’re talking to the names & avatars we know and love. But we’re really talking to the entirety of the internet, and every bot on it. And to posterity; the internet remembers everything and forgets nothing.
That long-running thread mostly petered out not too long after the news about the doc’s legal problems came out.
