I’ve dropped out of that thread because I said my piece, and really have nothing to add beyond what I’ve already said. So, in order to not raise my blood pressure, I’m no longer reading it. The truth is I’m sympathetic to other viewpoints expressed there, as long as they aren’t needlessly cruel.
ETA: I see that the OP of the thread is “CC.” Whoever that is. Not me, at any rate. Whew.

I also wondered who CC was, and assumed it was an acronym. For a charter member, CC doesn’t post much, at least not in threads i follow.
They have a long posting history from what I can see.
But not in threads i read.

Back to “What were you THINKING?”, too many posters are engaging with MW_Degen_Gamblr in the $250 hotel incidental charge for “unauthorized” tampering with HVAC controls thread as if that poster were not a troll. Their shtick is too start a thread with a controversial topic and then reply with just enough aggravating ignorance to keep way too many board members engaged. It’s pure bait and hook. Don’t feed the troll and don’t let them bait you. Swim elsewhere.

I’m not sure it’s “trolling”, narrowly defined.
But despite our sorta left-leaning political culture here, for sure SDMB has a lot of tiresome old biddies / geezers of both genders full of conventional judgementalism.
And his schtick is to use his (real?) rather outrageous lifestyle to poke that hornet’s nest of righteous indignation and watch the following frothing fray of hollow harrumphing.
Yeah, I commented on that thread before I realized what was happening and have backed off now. Pure trollery.

I’ve since unwatched the thread. Some train wrecks are just too stupid to watch.
The general thesis, whether it’s okay to circumvent hotel thermostats, feels like classic SDMB nitpickery to me. The problem is the packaging rather than the content, and the OP does appear to be deliberately stirring the pot.
