His posts on many topics are veering deeply into wacko-land.
I’m beginning to think he doesn’t actually care when Republicans are making it harder for rape victims or abuse victims, he’s just using survivors as pawns to score political points. Because in every other context he seems to fundamentally not give a shit about us.
I think he’s… I don’t know. His statements, collectively, don’t make sense. I don’t know what he believes.
I don’t dislike Der Trihs. I don’t think he’s an asshole. I’ve had good discussions with him, and I often agree with him about a lot of things, and think he’s pretty cool for the most part.
But every once in a while, he completely departs from reality altogether. That’s not an insult, because again, I like him. There are a number of people I don’t like on this board, he is absolutely not one of those people. But sometimes, it’s like he has blind spots about certain things. It’s unfortunate.

I’m more or less with you. I’m sure there are times he made me rage quit in the past, but I was a lot more sensitive then. Lately I’ve found a lot more common ground with him. And at this point, that idea that women are collectively terrified of men is more amusing than upsetting. I’ve heard worse, from worse people. But this is what he does. He’s always said this and always believed this and it’s never going to change.
At least he’s not a Republican.
He’s had this particular blind spot for years and years. I suspect something happened in his personal life that deeply wounded him.
Not rambling at all. A good little piece of prose. You did spark a little coal of old rage of having to sit through unhelpful and condescending bullshit from some overpaid and shallow consultants years ago in my short stint in the corporate world.
A problem w extreme views is it’s hard to hold just one. Pretty soon the tension between your collection of normal views and your one extreme view pulls another view over to extremism. Lather rinse repeat unless you have a very strong grounding in IRL friends and family and coworkers.
IMO Der_Trihs is circling the “all extremism all the time” drain. Sad to watch.
That’s because extremism isn’t a belief, it’s a personality trait.
