It was boys. He talked about it like it was in his past and he paid for his crimes. Then he was PMing with a teenager here as I recall. And that turned into a nasty mess that I don’t want to recap
I think that was his own background, but I thought he was also the one to try and make a point of adults lusting after young teens were not pedophiles. Maybe that was a different poster. Stage Manager was actually banned before I joined. So I’m just fuzzily trying to remember stuff from 18+ years ago. Whenever I read about it.
Boy his posts in that pan fried thread were inappropriate.
Errm, no. This place is much better now - better moderated, less hostile to the marginalized, just overall better. We don’t all approve of how it was before.
That’s not the way I read it, although I grant the wording is unclear. That poster seems rather to be acknowledging that they sometimes fall short of the new and welcome zeitgeist here, due to having been active in the before times and sometimes forgetting to remember that those times are gone.
You are not good at apologies.
Dinsdale being a sarcastic, petulant baby in ATMB over a mod note. Now he’s calling people that flag posts tattletales and busybodies.
The antecedent of the that in ‘that’s been … universally approved’ is ‘this was a very different place’ by my reading. Anything else is excuse-making.
Holy moly! I just read that threat. This guy is a judge???
He’s trying soooo hard to sidle right up to the line and see if he can slip a toe over with that passive-aggressive bullshit.
For disability claims.
Well, nuts?
You owe me a new irony meter.
It seems to me that he’s objecting to the whole concept of an interactive discussion board with rules and collaboration between mods and posters.
How has he been here so long and why is he still here?!
Mostly he’s fine, sometimes he really likes to be an argumentative and cantankerous ass. This is one of those times.
That whole thread was apparently just a gotcha thread. I somewhat regret taking the time to make a long, thought out and detailed reply to it.
Also, according to @Dinsdale, not just tattletales, but also Junior Mods:
“But if a post is not of interest to me, I don’t feel a need to tattle to a mod. You - and perhaps most others - see doing so as necessary to uphold the integrity (or whatever other word) of these boards. I see it as being a junior mod, tattling, being a busybody…”
Jeez, my understanding is that reporting a post is the opposite of being a junior mod. I thought junior modding was telling other posters how to obey rules, instead of reporting possible violations so an actual mod can handle the matter.
I suppose I’m just not enough of a gruff, self-sufficient, no-nonsense kinda guy to understand these things.
He is wrong, we encourage flagging. We cannot moderate the board without it. It is far from jr. Modding.
I’ve had 2 posters I reached out to not flag so many. One was just wrong 70% of the time and flagging a lot. The other was playing games and trying to weoponize the flag system.
What I noticed is that in a thread about hijacking, he’s completely derailed it by, somehow, not understanding the difference between a flag being thrown by a poster on a message board and a flag being thrown by a ref at a game. I don’t know why people are even responding to it.
Someone should flag it as a hijack.
I’m pretty sure he gets it; he’s just enjoying being pedantic about the term being misused (in his opinion) in the former context.
It’s literally a picture of a flag. Come on! ![]()
