It’s spammers or scammers of some sort, not trolls. They will do a search for, in this case, “Battlestar Galactica” and make their post hoping for a hit. It’s like email spam. Low effort, low chance of working, high payoff.
OK, but what kind of a ‘hit’ or result are they hoping for? I don’t understand what the payoff would be.
I think it goes like:
- Spam
- Underpants
- Profit!
It varies. They may have a link of some kind in their profile or they may intend to make a few normal posts before making a spam post.
Spammer: BGS really sucks.
Poster: What? No, it’s really good.
[more back and forth]
Spammer: Maybe you’re not getting laid enough. I thought it was good until I tried these pills [link].
or
Spammer: Well, if you’re going to watch bad TV, at least your feet should be comfortable. I love my ___ shoes, they’re the best! [link]

Spammer: I’ve got something much better than BSG. Check out my Onlyfans site. [link]
We’ve had those kinds of noob accounts ever since I’ve been here, nothing new.
You hashed things out with incomplete information. I did copy everything that was said over there into the mod loop discussion just so that everyone would have the full picture, but there are some things that none of you over there were aware of.
Fair enough. As I am sure you are aware because I said it over there, I think that you do a very good job as a Moderator. I applaud you for reconsidering.

I would then ask “but why the silly offensive username and moronic post if they’re trying to engage with board members?” but I think I know the answer to that too: I used to wonder how come ‘Nigerian spam emails’ worked at all when they were so blatantly fake and badly written. Then I read somewhere that it’s done on purpose-- it takes the scammer time and effort to try to reel in a fish that bites, so they make the emails so bad to self-select for the biggest morons.

I’m with @crowmanyclouds in our parent thread - this is a entity that is a troll, or otherwise disturbed, rather than a normal poster who is off their rocker. They’re up to their third 2 sentence declaration thread - so probably best for Our Honored Parent Thread on Trolls.
