I’m wondering if the conversation about / between ColdBrew50et al might benefit from a more private room, not right up here next to the stage obstructing everyone’s view of the dancers.
Once a fight picks up some momentum IMO it goes out of scope here.
I was working at an ad agency where everyone was putting in a week of late nights to meet a deadline. We were taking a break for pizza, and I asked “What’s your dream job?”
The VP said that during high school he stocked shelves at a grocery store. “During crazy times like this, I picture myself at 2 am with headphones on, lining up boxes of cereal. No bosses, no customers, no stress…”
.
(Hey, it’s a tangent, but it’s not Tesla or Waymo or Randall…)
That displays a placeholder icon in Discourse and clicking it into a new tab produces an error message. Not sure why. Maybe a login is required or they don’t permit hotlinking or if it was search results their results cache has timed out.
I don’t know if anyone else can see it, but I can’t.
Looking under the sheets I think the url is the result of a search and basically says “show the result of search number 123456” And once the server’s cache throws that result set away, the response becomes some flavor of “error”
I mean, you are right. And it is a “band-aid”, it is helping to some extent but not solving the problem.
Still, India (in my limited experience) is a very misogynistic society. Granted I have only been to limited areas (Gujarat, Rajahstan, Uttar Pradesh) - I am no expert. My ex-wife complained that any question she asked to a taxi driver, the answer was directed to me, the same with tour guides etc.
So the band aid, as little as it is, is a start. A good start.
How to pack a ton of misogyny and bigotry in a few lines:
What were you thinking? (Well, at least he was not thinking that women and minorities could be raised and slaughtered) **
Nope, it was not irrelevant, misleading info about DEI coming from right wing sources is what is guiding a lot of people, that is for sure. The question here is if it is just the misleading info coming from the extreme right or if it is the moderates (?) like Dr. Strangelove who are just giving up and are getting used to swallow what the extreme right is telling them to think about issues that in reality have less to do with right or left ideologies.
This DEI thing is a lot like the CRT boogeyman, when others made very ignorant posts about CRT, I pointed about how CRT was used by Asian, African American or Jewish researchers to publish papers using the CRT framework. they pointed at the bigotry and ethnic cleansing among less diverse populations in China or Africa. Making a mockery of the point from the right that CRT was made to make whites feel bad for no reason. Some reprehensible posters did see the evidence I posted and just declared that they were exceptions… Sure… everything to justify the misleading right-wing narrative about CRT.
Similarity, DEI is not only geared to help reduce the non-imaginary systemic racism in the workplace or other institutions, but it also includes ways to deal with the discrimination of women and disabled people in the same. Trying to minimize that is really just an effort to defend a very misleading narrative from the right.
