No one wanted to be Wiley Kit?
I guess I grew up in the same era as pizzabrat, because I used to watch a lot of those cartoons. Add in Sailor Moon (which I still watch  ), Doug and Astroboy and you’ve just summed up my entire childhood.

Totally agree. Also, cartoons were not selling products back then.
There was one beautiful animated feature (wordless) about an egg which rolled into a farmhouse, was hatched by a hen, turned out to be an eagle and the eagle ended up later saving his ‘mother’ hen’s life.
I well remember the bouncing ball song cartoons: The Merry Month of May, Daisy, all those old-school songs.
We watched Tom Terrific, Crusader Rabbit, Mighty Mouse, and Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse.
Also those funky black and white with music but no dialogue Paul Terry cartoons.
But my absolute favorite was Astro-Boy. He was so cool!
My older son grew up with He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Skeletor always cracked me up.
Another Looney Tunes fan (note the homage in my username).
I also loved Rocky and Bullwinkle, Beany and Cecil, Underdog, and, Og help me, Top Cat.
Oooh, and Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Anyone else of the right vintage remember the Saturday morning Beatles cartoons?
I do! Loved 'em.
I used to love Top Cat as well.
Top Cat!
The indisputable leader of the gang
He’s the chief
He’s the king
But above everything
He’s the most tip top
Top Cat!
Oh yeah! I left out Woody Woodpecker. I wonder why none of the Walter Lantz cartoons are not shown anywhere? And Huckleberry Hound, and Yogi Bear, and Top Cat, and Mighty Mouse, and Alvin & The Chipmunks. And The Beatles (I have them all now on VHS from collectors). Thanks for helping me to dredge up some really old memories!
Yes. (chuckle)
Qadgop reminded me of Rocky & Bullwinkle, which I really liked, although only years later did I realize that I’d been too young to get all the best jokes… the “ruby yacht of Omar Khayyam,” and the Kerwood Derby, a hat that, when worn, made you the smartest person in the world… (of course, you gotta know who Durwood Kirby was to get THAT joke. I hear he didn’t think it was very funny.)
bizzwire reminded me of Jonny Quest, which I absolutely adored. That show ran in reruns for most of my childhood, which confused me later in the seventies, when they imposed regulations about how violent a cartoon could be… which meant Batman couldn’t actually punch anyone, and Thundarr couldn’t actually carve anyone up with his “sun sword,” but Race Bannon could still merrily blaze away at bad guys with his Garand…
…and bizzwire, in case you didn’t know, Cartoon Network’s Harvey Birdman, Attorney At Law did an episode where Race and Benton Quest are fighting for custody of the boys. Never comes right out and SAYS they were gay, but… well, you gotta see it. Funny as all getout… and still in reruns on Adult Swim!
And the usual: Johnny Quest, Superfriends, The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour, etc.
“Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends” – I’ve always liked Spider-Man, and I had a major crush on Firestar.
I recall that a Hulk cartoon shared a show with Spider-Man… I liked that one, too.
Whichever Superfriends show had the Legion of Doom as the recurring antagonist.
The Batman/Tarzan hour. For some reason, they decided that running a Batman cartoon and a Tarzan cartoon together made perfect sense. I enjoyed this despite Tarzan’s inexplicable familiarity with aliens and advanced technology, and the conversion of Batman into a straight-man for Bat-Mite.
Another vote for Jonny Quest, although I could have done without Hadji’s occasional use of magic powers, and the giant rock-man was just silly in that context.
I liked Aquaman when I was really young and I also watched the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour from early on (I’d still watch it but our stupid local ABC affiliate station doesn’t carry it anymore.)
I watched Rocky and Bullwinkle for a short time when I lived in Wisconsin (I was around 8 years old) but when I was back in Kentucky there wasn’t a station that ran it. A lot of its humor went over my head at that age.
I also watched Scooby Doo and Josie and the Pussy Cats and got ticked off if the Watergate Hearings interfered with them. Looking back, I realize they were pretty lame cartoons but as a kid I hated to miss them.
One of my favorites was The Perilous Perils of Penelope Pitstop and I also liked Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the Groovie Ghoulies. I can barely remember anything about them now, except that “Pitstop” had a thug called The Hooded Claw and his two goons were always saying “Right boss,” which I found quite amusing.
Last night, I watched “Drawn Together” on the Comedy Channel. It’s a reality show, in which various cartoon characters from assorted shows have to share a house. Our heroes include Superman, Spongebob, one of Josie’s Pussycats, the Little Mermaid, Betty Boop, Porky Pig, Pikachu, and so on (altered enough to avoid lawsuits, but intact enough to be recognizable).
After seeing only one episode, I put it on the list of “damndest things I ever saw.”
I just Googled Crusader Rabbit and discovered something I should have known. It was the first animated cartoon series made for TV all the way back in 1848. I go back a little farther than that.
Make that 1948. :o
Preview doesn’t help when you’re dyslexic.
…they had TV in 1848?
…and you’re older than that?

I also do Roger Ramjet and His Eagles
I forgot to add** Darkwing Duck**… whenever there’s trouble you call D.W.! That and Duck Tales. Those were the days.
Most of them are exact copies, but characters like Clara and Xandir are supposed to be archetypical of genre characters - Clara’s the Disney princess and Xandir’s an RPG hero. And you’re way off base with Spanky Ham being Porky Pig - Spanky’s supposed to be a “crass internet download (who farts on retards)”, bascially a parody of the hacky offensive for offensiveness sake Flash cartoons you see all over the web.
I stand corrected. I just discovered this stuff last night, and I’m still a little shook up…
Dude, the whole point of make-believe is to be a grownup. And to us, Cheetara was the epitome of adult grace and class.
I was sooo excited when we moved into town and got cable when I was 9 and I could watch Dangermouse and Count Duckula. Why is there no DVD of Dangermouse?
Another G-Force fan checking it. My fave on that was Tiny, and I had a crush on Princess. Here’s a link I found about the cartoon.
I also enjoyed Inspector Gadget and Mr. Magoo.
A lot of the 'toons mentioned in the 70’s and early 80’s were my life saturdays. I didn’t play sports or anything, I lived for the TV. my kids don’t watch at all
Some not mentioned yet…
Devlen was about a motercylcle stuntman. Loved that.
*Star Trek * (TAS)
anyone remember the animanted Gilligan’s Island?
Schoolhouse Rock, and Fat Albert.
