I had zero wages in 2017 (as I have for the past 12 years or so). I still made a decent income.

Not in my case; hence the screen-name. I figure on being poor till the day I die. 
In my case about $14,000 for all of 2017. I could get the exact figure since my tax stuff all started coming but that’s pretty close. In interest of full disclosure I am semi-retired, just working part time, and live in the inner-city. And the wife still likes her job enough that we have two incomes.
