What will happen in the next 10 weeks?

What I read elsewhere (probably NY Times) is that once the lease is signed it would be very hard to breach it. You cannot break a contract without damn good reason. He is apparently trying to do things it will be very hard to undo, at least without congress.

He is apparently trying to get an invasion or at least a bombing of Iran started as a going away present.

I’m not sure that he will bother with destruction for its own sake. Unless he can get something out of it or direct it against his enemies, I think it would take too much effort to leave a stinking crater.

He’s going to continue stoking his base to hysteria. I don’t think that there will be riots per-se since that doesn’t seem to the the Alt-rights MO unless they go full pogrom. Instead they tend toward organized criminal and violent acts, akin to the Witmer kidnapping or these two idiots.

The main ticking time bomb is that the government runs out of money on December 11th. Trump has no motivation to keep it running, who cares about public sentiment, his base loved the last shutdown. He will see his cooperation with Congress as a bargaining chip, and will want something pretty damn big for it.

Meanwhile Georgia will start voting on its monumentally important senate runoff 3 days later, with McConnell needing to make the case that the senate should stay in Republican hands. It will be interesting to see how McConnell tries to distance himself from Trumps obvious obstructionism without pissing off his base. In any case I lay even odds that the government will be shut down from December 11th through Jan 20th, unless there are enough Republicans willing to risk the wrath of the Trump party to overide his veto with a 2/3 majority in both houses.

He’ll bomb Iran just to leave Biden with a mess. I was wondering why the purge at the Pentagon - thought it might have been getting a loyal military to keep him in office. Nope. It’s to start a fucking war.

I don’t know about bombing Iran, but the immediate reason for the purge is the draw down of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. Not saying that bombing won’t happen; it very well could, but maybe a lot closer to the inauguration.

Right wing rioting by the Proud Boys, tearing down a Black Lives Matter sign from a Black church.

Done!

Noted.

This post really didn’t age well, on so many levels. I love it when people are so naive that they insist that Trump is psychologically normal.

He is, from a certain point of their view.

I don’t think it’s so much naivete, as I recently noted, as part of a large-scale Republican/conservative effort at “frog boiling”.

Republican/conservative minoritarian politics now depends upon concerted anti-democracy machinations to be able to win elections and block majoritarian governance. The longer they can keep stalling us that this is fine, this is normal, this is business as usual in two-party politics, the more opportunities they have to consolidate their own power before the rest of us call them out on it.
