Any news on what the US will do with Iranian POWs from the Iran/Iraq war that were still reportedly held by Iraq? Any chance the US would consider releasing them as a “good will” gesture?
It would appear most of the Jails in Iraq have been propped open. If there were any Iranians among the population I suspect they have been walking east for a few days now.
Any Iranian prisoners left over from the Iran/Iraq war would be given medical treatment as necessary, probably interviewed about their imprisonment for evidence in war crimes trials, then turned over to the appropriate organization (Red Cross/Red Crescent) for repatriation. Just like any Kuwaiti citizens they find who may have been imprisoned in 1991.
Why would the US not release them? Why would you consider releasing them to be a “goodwill gesture” and towards whom?
