What will Trump do on Inauguration Day?

He asked all politically appointed Ambassadors to resign. Not all Ambassadors. You seem to get your info from the same sources as Trump.

I did say “ALL U.S. Envoys appointed by the previous President”, didn’t I?

I hope he’ll finally disclose the unbelievable things his team in Hawaii found.

Investigations in a tropical paradise on someone else’s dime always take longer.

“You won’t believe what they’re finding” doesn’t necessarily relate to Obama’s birth certificate.

If I remember correctly from what he said during the campaign, his first day in office was going to be when he completely fixes the problem of gun violence in the US. Because he’s the only one that can fix it.

Since he’s the one that said it, I’m not sure if that actually falls into the “imaginary” category or not.

No.

ALL Ambassadors appointed by Obama. That would be ALL of them. The wording was NEVER “all politically appointed ambassadors”.

Whose wording?

Just what do you think an ambassador is? An elected office? FFS, this country needs a civics class. Seriously. Lets just shut down for a week of classes. We will be far better for it in the long run.

Where the hyperbole comes from is by not admitting that it’s not far from what has always happened. Even in the obviously and unapologetically biased Huffpo the article says that “He was confirming a report in the New York Times, which quoted diplomatic sources as saying previous U.S. administrations, from both major political parties, have traditionally granted extensions to allow a few ambassadors, particularly those with school-age children, to remain in place for weeks or months.” So in the past most were out on day one but “a few” were allowed to stay on for a little while.

Here are some Ambassadors that are not political appointees and I presume are not asked to resign:

Joan Polaschik
Richard Mills
Marcia Bernicat

etc. etc.

From a brief glance, more than half of ambassadors are not political appointees.

There’s also tradition.
In Break With Precedent, Obama Envoys Are Denied Extensions Past Inauguration Day

Tradition is great but this doesn’t effect me or the country. This tradition helped a few political appointees with childcare issues. So Trump is being a dick to a few ambassadors. That’s the issue. So what, as a political appointee you serve at the pleasure of the president. It’s the nature of the beast. All those countries with ambassadors who don’t have childcare issues would have been without a senate confirmed envoy regardless. It’s not like the embassies will be empty they are filled with career diplomats. This constantly trying to portray everything Trump does as the worst thing ever since the last thing we told you about is overhyped. Just wait a few minutes, I’m sure he will do something really bad in a few minutes.

Unless he know beforehand what will be the worst he will do, how will we we know beforehand when it’s o.k. to start commenting on what he has already done?

Because this particular issue means very little. It can’t be the worst thing he does since it’s not even particularly important.

OMG Trump is getting rid of all the ambassadors! That’s never happened before! (Except that it’s what happens for the majority of embassies other than for a few that would ask for extensions because of childcare issues)

But this thread isn’t about that one thing being the worst thing he has done/will do. This is a thread about what he will actually do on inauguration day, and I just threw out the first example to get the ball rolling.

From your link:

They are all political appointees

Of course you would. How old are you again?

Perhaps you should read the linked article above.

You don’t seem to understand what a “political appointee” is in this context. All ambassadors are appointed by the president. Those three are career foreign service officers, not political appointees. Polashick joined the foreign service in 1995, Mills in 1988, and Bernicat in 1982.

“Political appointees” are generally people without significant previous foreign service experience who are appointed because of political service to a party.

Judging by his childish tweets about The Apprentice, Trump’s primary concern on Inauguration Day will be television ratings. He might really lose it if he sees reports that viewership is down.
