Not only will he not attend, I don’t think he’ll leave a letter in the oval for his successor.
Of course not. Jeez.
Maybe he’ll tweet something.
No way.
He should if he wants to see a real inauguration crowd.
He will never even admit that he lost. In Trump’s private fantasy world, he never loses. “Evidence” is not in his vocabulary.
Do defeated presidents usually attend the inauguration of their successor?
Attendees
In addition to the public, the attendees at the ceremony generally include the vice president, members of Congress, Supreme Court justices, high-ranking military officers, former presidents, living Medal of Honor recipients, and other dignitaries. The outgoing president customarily attends the president-elect’s inauguration. Only five have chosen not to do so. John Adams, still smarting over the outcome of the election of 1800, did not remain in Washington to witness the inauguration of Thomas Jefferson, his successor. In 1829, John Quincy Adams also left town, unwilling to be present to see Andrew Jackson’s accession to the White House. In 1869, Andrew Johnson was angrily conducting a cabinet meeting even as his successor, Ulysses S. Grant, was being inaugurated.[12] More recently, Woodrow Wilson did not attend Warren G. Harding’s 1921 inauguration (though he rode to the Capitol with him), nor did Richard Nixon attend Gerald Ford’s 1974 inauguration (having left Washington, D.C., prior to his resignation taking effect).
Can he write?
huh. I didn’t know that. Thanks.
So far, he hasn’t even conceded the loss, so I doubt he’ll attend the inauguration. (Although if he does, it might be amusing to have one camera stay on his face the whole time.)
And how soon does Melania file for divorce?
Going by that list, then, it would seem that even the one-termers, including Ford, Carter, and Bush, have attended the inauguration. That said, I doubt Trump will be one of them.
FWIW, I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to hear Trump speak (or even tweet) more than now. But only to the extent that I hold out some naive hope that he might acknowledge his loss and at least implicitly dissuade the fringe element from doing anything criminal.
Nope.
'Cause he’s leeavin on a jet plane…goin to the moon and won’t be back again.
Considering that he hasn’t contacted Biden, nope.
I think he will. He’ll try his best to make it all about him. I can picture him elbowing his way to the front to snatch the bible from Dr. Biden and try to give himself the oath.
Does Biden WANT him there?
He absolutely will not attend. I think the most likely scenario is that he will leave Washington beforehand for Mar-a-Lago (although Moscow is a distinct possibility). There is a possibility he will be holed up in the White House until the Secret Service is called on to escort him out, but I think his family and maybe administration members will be able to lure him out with cheeseburgers before that occurs.
Biden is bending over backward to be decorous, presidential, and a unifier - so if Trump were by some miracle to attend and behave himself, I think Biden would welcome the opportunity to demonstrate bipartisan graciousness.
Alas, I’m quite sure Trump doesn’t have it in him. We shall see.
I don’t doubt Biden would be grace personified about it, but does he actually WANT him there? I certainly wouldn’t, but then I’m not a gracious person with right-wingers. At all.
