You mean, other then “Springtime for Hitler”?
I can easily visualize Adolf getting up on a fine day and shaving while belting out Everything’s Coming Up Roses to the mirror.
Especially if Hitler is played by Dustin Hoffman or Sean Astin.
I bet he loved Disney :
*We bring the world to order
Heil Hitler’s new world order
Everyone of foreign race will love der Fuehrer’s face
When we bring to der world disorder
When der Fuehrer says, “We ist der master race”
We HEIL! (phhht!) HEIL! (phhht!) Right in der Fuehrer’s face
When Der Fuehrer says, “We ist der master race”
We HEIL! (phhht!) HEIL! (phhht!) Right in der Fuhrer’s face ! *
I wonder what he would think of this version.
I think he would enjoy “Sunrise Sunset” from Fiddler.
I’m thinking he would’ve gone for Sweeny Todd in a big way. And Les Mis would’ve been a guilty pleasure.
Russians?
Jews?
Now THAT’S a musical Hitler would have an interest in!
My first thought was “Oklahoma!,” because you know in the privacy of his own shower he loved to belt 'em out.
Any show tunes by the Austrian composer Franz Lehár (The Merry Widow).
Hitler should be played by Christopher Walken.
Better choice!
And Walken could probably do the dancing better anyway.
Of all the actors I’ve seen play Adolf, I think I was most impressed by Robert Carlyle. Not so much from resemblance, although there was a little, but more from attitude.
Really? After watching Blackadder, the only person I can ever think of playing Hitler is Rowan Atkinson. Humming the Ring Cycle while the Luftwaffe bombs London.
I came up with “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” from Cabaret, which he might’ve actually liked. It’s creepy that way. :smack:
I can’t remember which film I saw it in but wasn’t Tomorrow Belongs To Me sort of an anthem for the Hitler Youth? Maybe the Pope could tell us?
I assumed it was by Kander and Ebb, but you could be right.
I was forgetting another one that Hitler might’ve actually liked in a creepy way also:
From “To Be Or Not To Be”:
*All I want is peace!
peace!
peace!
A little PIECE of Poland,
a little PIECE of France,
a little slice of Turkey
and then Austria by chance!*
Nobody’s mentioned The Sound of Music yet? Hellooooooooo?
Apparently, he liked the song “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf” from the Disney “The Three Little Pigs” He also liked Wagner’s operas, and also, referred to before, liked Lehar.
Tomorrow Belongs to Me was indeed written by Kander and Ebb. I have this memory of seeing or hearing one of them interviewed, in which he mentions that people have often assumed that it was a genuine Hitler Youth song, which made him proud and creeped him out in equal measures.
But he would’ve gotten to that line about Pakistan and been completely confused.
Glad someone else saw that too. He was amazing, wasn’t he? Very subtle performance of a nasty little pervert, with a horrible intelligence for marketing, enjoying - but somehow unsure of - what he’d created. [/hijack]
