Practice my new hobby: sit in my record room and play the drums with songs I know.
Actually, we were all informed that we had to take our personal day before the end of June, or it’ll go away, so I had a paid day off on Monday, and that’s what I did.
I’d swear vehemently before heading back home and re-doing my budget. I don’t get paid days off unless it’s a federal holiday, so I have to budget in stuff like that.
Go to the zoo. I enjoy the zoo, but I rarely have enough time to go, and the times I do have free are the same times everyone else has free so it’s crowded. There are few things as pleasurable as wandering a nearly-empty zoo late on a weekday morning.
Standard day-at-home stuff similar to a weekend day with no plans: Putter around the house, indoors or out according to the weather, with a couple of breaks for reading, a nap, etc.
Do some sewing, construction work on my falconry facilities, baking, reading, run errands, visit the library, play around online, I could fill a sudden free week!
Sorry about that, I forgot to include in the rules that you would lose no pay for this, even temps. I wanted to make this revenue neutral, that’s why I said you’d earn nothing extra if you brought work home. :smack:
I would probably make a beeline for Madrid Bar in the Patpong red-light district, open from early morning, and chow down on one of their excellent pizzas or bacon cheeseburgers. They arguably have the best pizza in Bangkok, and their bacon cheeseburgers are to die for. Really crisp bacon, a thick hunk of well-cooked meat, mmmmmmm, they really know hot to do it. And the bargirls there are never pushy, they’ll leave you alone unless you want to talk to them, it’s a house rule. Makes for a pleasant interlude.
Since it’s finally stopped raining, I’d go to the park and read a book. Or go to the town next over, which is much larger, and watch whatever movie is playing at the theater, browse the shops, and have a nice lunch.
Back in America, I’d probably have taken advantage of the free time to get all my shit taken care of…laundry, grocery shopping, boring stuff like that. Or maybe I’d have gone to the dog beach at Montrose and watched all the doggies splashing around in Lake Michigan…and then I’d take the bus downtown and go to the Art Institute or the aquarium. Then I’d go to the Harold Washington Library and browse around and end up walking out with far too many books for me to read during the allotted period. After that, I’d go have some good food. First thing that comes to mind is Indian, but I don’t think I’d feel like going all the way up to Devon, so probably I’d hop on the Brown Line home and go to the nice Indian place just a couple blocks from my apartment, at Wilson and N. Clark. Then I’d go home and eat sharp cheddar cheese and drink a glass of wine and read my new library books.
Do some stuff I need to do around the house but haven’t had time to. Or, if temptation gets the better of me, I’d take my bus pass and knowledge of some of the public transport routes, and just daytrip around the city for a bit.
Well, the first thing that I’d do is find out if I’d be getting paid. (Since I’m a part-time worker–just 2 hours less than full-time, and no, they won’t let me work the extra 2 hours–I don’t get paid time off, paid holidays, or any other benefits, so an uplanned day off for me would not be financially cool.)
Once that question was settled (at this firm, most likely **not ** to my satisfaction, so I’d just be screwed), I’d probably head down to the Village and close one of the bars (probably the Hangar) and hope I get lucky. (I start work at 1 AM, which, in NYC, is just three hours before the bars close.)
I’d get the paper and head to one of my favourite cafes for a big, late-morning cooked breakfast. Then I’d head home, maybe picking up a snapper for tea on the way. Then I’d lounge at home for a couple of hours - playing the piano, doing some laundry or whatever. In the afternoon, I’d go to the gym for a long-ish session. That would still leave me time to get home and bake my snapper for tea. What a top day that would be.
