Whatcha Drinking?

Nothing…

Stupid Lent.

I’ve been going through the whole line of Leinenkugel’s brews lately. Love it all so far.

And he’s absolutely right.

I love this stuff too - it’s one of my all-time favorites, and perfect for drinking when the weather gets warmer.

Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey. Everything else in the house just sits around collecting dust now that I’ve found this. Truly remarkable.

Unless I see some microbrew I’ve never tried, Newcastle is my go-to beer. I haven’t had a bad one.

I’ve got 312 (Goose Island) in the kegerator. Although it blew over the weekend so I might have to make a trip to the store tonight.

Downed a bunch of Alagash White on Saturday, still a fan of this beer although I will admit it’s a tad girly.

Lost Coast must have magical elves working their brewery. Great White by Lost Coast is one of my favorite beers EVER! You can pick it up at Bevmo and random grocery stores in California… but its RARELY in any bar or pub. When I am at a Pub that has it on tap, I will stay there until either the keg is empty or ive been kicked out! SO GOOD!

I’m also a huge fan of Shock Top Ale. Its the perfect breakfast beer. Like Mimosa’s for beer drinkers. Drink it in a glass with a slice of squeezed orange… delicious!

I really love both of these beers… everytime I suggest them to someone, the newbie does the whole stop-ponder and, “Wow. Thats really is good!”

Dogfishhead 60 minute IPA. Went out of my way on Friday night to get a pint at the only place I know that has it on tap. The Cherry lambic the OP mentions sounds great but I’m not made of money ya know.

I had tried this a year or so back, and must have forgotten how great it tastes, because I was so enraptured by the flavor (I love tart, crisp beverages) I almost didn’t want to drink the last one. I will be sure to try and keep a 6 pack on hand from here on out.

A few pilsners (maybe Spaten Pils or Staropramen or even LaBatt’s) followed by a couple of bottles of perry may be my new go to move when looking to get a bit loose.

All fine bourbons, but try some Bulleit Bros bourbon if you can find it.

I’ve tried all the above, but keep going back to the “Frontier Whiskey” bottle. I’ll likely have a few fingers of that tonight, to be enjoyed in a very quiet house. (The family is headed to FL to visit the inlaws. Win win all around)

Tactical Nuclear Penguin
What an awesome name for a beer and at 32% ABV, I must try this!
I will order and consume this beer.
Oh yes I will.

Still taking it easy after drinking probably more beer than is healthy at SF Beer Week a week and a half ago, but tonight I said screw it. It’s cold and rainy and I wanted a nice glass of wine.

So I opened a bottle of Stephen & Walker - 06 Monterey Pinot Noir. Doing the trick and warming me up nicely. It’s silky and rich, with lots of fruit - cherry, raspberry, and earthy, woody tones. Maybe a hint of eucalyptus. There are a couple more bottles on the rack, it’s going to be hard to hang on to them, but I should at least open the next one with friends. It’s too good not to share.

Wine this evening. Legato Malbec 2007. Texan wine is surprisingly good.

Cline Zinfandel. It has this wonderfully smoky oak flavor to it. Cline is a little hard to find outside the Seattle area (although I’ve never spent much time in California, where it’s made; it is likely easy to find there), and I’ll really miss it when I ship out to Korea next week.

If you can afford it, their Big Break is even better.

I was all stupid when I got to taste this at a liquor store near my dad’s place and forgot to buy any. I did end up with some Black Maple Hill 23yo rye, so that’s what I’m having.

There’s a fun chapter about the origins of Stranahan’s in the book Chasing the White Dog: An Amateur Outlaw’s Adventures in Moonshine. Definitely worth a read.

Tonight it’s Old Bardstown bourbon. Not a bad tipple at all.

Ooohhh cherry oak doppelbock you say? I wonder if the Widmer brewery has it on tap.
