Whatcha Watchin'? (Jan 09) Thread

I just finished Red Dawn - which I missed in the 80s. A spectacularly bad film, it still did a good job of what I want in a DVD rental: It kept me entertained and my heart moving while I am exercising. I find that the action films work better than the artsy films, although the romcoms do an OK job.

I am looking forward to this week’s opening of Taken. I may not get to see it this week, but it has been a while since something came out that I wanted to see in the theaters.

I’m rewatching some Coen brothers movies (and seeing some for the first time). This weekend it was Miller’s Crossing. I’ll have to watch again to really appreciate it, but I liked the soundtrack enough to buy the CD. Next up is Raising Arizona.

I’m doing the “awards movies” run. Watched Slumdog Millionaire the other night (which was great, but not BEST PICTURE great) and on a whim, Milk (only after I was assured multiple times that neither Sean Penn or Gus Van Sant were doing their “thing” in it), which was great. Gonna watch Doubt now.

Just finished I could never be your woman. A light-but-predictable romantic farce in which the stunningly-hot Michelle Pfiefer plays a a stunningly-hot 40-something divorced mother of one who falls in love with the 29 year old Paul Rudd and then worries he will fall for someone else. A sub-plot has her daughter falling in love for the first time.

Over all I enjoyed it, even though it was fairly predictable. Plenty of places that made me smile, and a few out-right laughs. And I came away feeling good, which is usually all I ask.

I’m a little behind on this one but I’ve finally started watching The Shield on DVD.
