Started Sons of Anarchy. On season one, episode four. Pretty good.
Still going through That 70s Show (season 5, episode 20), The Office (season 6, episode 14) How I Met Your Mother (season 8, episode 5), and Prison Break (season 2, episode 14). Prison Break is a rewatch, so I’m reminded of all the stuff before I watch the renewed season five.
Some shows I started but put aside (I have every intention of coming back to them sometime, because I really like them) are Walking Dead, Grey’s Anatomy, The 100, Being Human, and Nurse Jackie. I just can only watch so many shows before others start getting ignored.
I’ve been binging 30 Rock lately. I had no idea that Alec Baldwin was such a good comedic actor. And as Kimmie Schimidt fan, I am gaining a great appreciation for the old blonde actress.
CNN’s “decades” series are very good. The Eighties was recently added.
If you can handle subtitles (or are fluent in French), I recommend A Very Secret Service (2015). It’s a comedy set in the world of 1960s spies – think Mad Men meets Get Smart (but the comedy is more subtle).
Two British comedies that I watch over and over are Black Books (2004) and The IT Crowd (2013).
I’ll add my vote to those for House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, though I haven’t watched either of the new seasons yet.
After an iffy start, I became utterly charmed by Grace and Frankie.
I’m a huge fan of COPS (and COPS-like shows) so I just added this, and saw that it’s only available until 6/30. I’m finishing up another series today, but will try to watch at least some of this before the end of the week!
Was surprised to see that I had already watched all of those Motorway Cops so I went looking for other new shows. Found one about truckers in Australia, focuses on one guy’s company and two (independent?) husband/wife teams as they drive their road trains across the island continent.
She and Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley) were both up for Leading Actress BAFTAs this year. I couldn’t pick the winner but Lancashire won and in her acceptance speech thanked Claire Foy for giving her the best 10 hours under a duvet she’d ever had.
I recommend Fauda. Made in Israel, it is popular with both Israelis and Palestinians there for its complex depiction of the tensions between the two groups. I’ve read it described as The Wire combined with 24. Subtitles - the dialogue is in Hebrew and Arabic. Really good.
Well, to join up a coupe of themes; Claire Foy starred in a lovely piece of work a few years ago called The Promise - also looking at Israel/Palestine.
Slogging through season three of Bloodline. I’m [del]assuming[/del] hoping that this is the final season, as these characters are beyond redemption. Spacek’s constant emoting doesn’t help.
I tried to watch the first episode (of the old five) the other night, but it was very…British. Which is often a very good thing (my family lived in England for a couple of years, and I’m a big fan of British TV), but in this case it means “too slow.” Too much of the same story, too much filmed commentary from officers…it wasn’t enough like the American COPS to hold my interest.
I’ll add that I and Mrs. Mahaloth are also watching:
LOST - I track every show we watch and it’s been 5 years since we re-watched LOST. We love this show. I know people critique later seasons(especially the finale), but it is a really great show and is so much fun to watch again.
13 Reasons Why - interesting (though morbid) premise, and the lead actors are good. Frustrating at times (due to plot contrivances), but overall I enjoyed it. There are some disturbing scenes involving rape and suicide, so be forewarned.
G.L.O.W. - I wasn’t sure I would like this, but it was very fun. I’ve been a fan of Alison Brie since Community, and she’s great as a down-on-her-luck aspiring actress whose life just fell apart. Mark Maron is hilarious as the jaded director. I hope they get a season 2.
Ozark - crime-thriller starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. Think ‘Breaking Bad meets Justified.’ Very good, but very grim.
While Motorway Cops didn’t work for me, I enjoyed Code 1 (emergency medical helicopter responses in New Zealand) and Emergency Down Under (a British show about UK ex-pats who work as first responders in Australia).
I haven’t seen Justified, but I binge-watched *Ozark * over the weekend and my thought was “Breaking Bad meets Fargo (without the humor).” I’ll watch Jason Bateman in just about anything, but I still liked it more than I thought I would. And I’d forgotten how much I like Laura Linney.
