Whatever happened to corn nuts?

Put this one in the category of “things that disappeared when I wasn’t paying attention.” The other week I got a hankering for corn nuts, and I’ve been searching for them ever since. They used to be a common enough snack – what happened to them?

Or maybe this is just an Eastern Massachusetts thing. If so, I may have to ask someone in another part of the world to mail me some.

I just grabbed a bag maybe 2 months ago or so. My experience was the opposite of yours. Now the original Corn Nuts were buried in between ranch, nacho cheese, barbecue, and other random flavors of Corn Nuts. They had multiplied when I wasn’t looking!

I gave the cheese ones a shot, but much prefer the original.

I’m pretty sure we still have 'em here in the midwest, I’ll take a look on my way home from work and see if I can find any. I’ll get back to you in about an hour or so.

What flavor do you want?

I still see them around in the midwest but oddly never at grocery stores. Always at gas stations when traveling on the interstates.

I’ve seen my share 'round here. I can mail you some if you’d like.

Yes, always in gas stations. In the grocery stores I go to, they’re usually near the candy or near the checkout. If you looked near chips, you’d miss them.

My local 7/11 has them.

BQ or plain?

There’s this stuff called Glad Corn that my husband really likes.

I always felt like those things were breaking my teeth! I haven’t had any since about 1982.

Definitely still around, but they seem smaller than I remember.

I see them at convenience stores around the Boston metro area.

People figured out they were the devil’s dingleberries and shunned them as they should always have done?

Ah, Corn Nuts; responsible for one of the greatest ad campaigns in the history of the world.

That can’t be real!

I broke a tooth on a corn nut once.

BQ!

My thoughts exactly.

I was ready to swear to high heaven that I remember this–I was a kid at the time and the jingle was instantly recognizable. A fairly thorough Google search, though and I can’t find any official looking evidence of it. I’d love to know. Anyone want to send an email or make a call to Planters or Kraft?

They’re still around, unfortunately. God, how I loathe the smell. My dad buys them just to torture me.
