Whatever happened to...?

FireUnderpantsBoobs - can’t find her in the Search engine; as I recall, she was a cute, sassy member that everybody flirted with, and awhile back she vanished. Anybody know what happened to her?

MagicalSilverKey - young fella who loves cats, had a troubled romantic life; his last post was 5-30-2002, when he ranted about the evil that is Blockbuster Video, then vanished.

TN*hippie - weird, groovy, funny dude with um, an active social life; talented writer of extremely silly poems; last heard from 11-19-2002 (although hillbilly queen is still with us, thank goodness!).

Mockingbird - last heard from 8-12-2003. What happened to him?

Other Dopers of whom I somehow lost track but who are still active posters are Fenris and Scylla; the ever-charming and wise Grandfather Trout (yay!), and last but not least Sue Duhnym. Huzzah!

Are you missing anyone?

Don’t know about the others, but I believe FireUnderpantsBoobs changed her screen name to AwSnappity.

I miss Mercy Street. She was here only briefly and was a GREAT writer.

I didn’t know FireUnderpantsBoobs had had a name change - hers was always my favorite SDMB moniker.

MercyStreet is HERE! I just found her.

Now I need to know… has she been here all along and I somehow managed to just completely miss her, or did she just come back?

Mockingbird moved to the Unaboard, and Fenris seems to spend most of his time there also.

Is the Mockingbird on the Unaboard really the same one? I thought the Unaboard had a female Mockingbird, and this board a male one (formerly named Hastur?).

Fenris is still around here, not as often as in the past, but I recently saw several posts of his.

It’s the same Mockingbird. You probably think the Unaboard’s is a woman because of his avatar; but he’s the same person either board.

Ukelele Ike has not been on the Boards in ages, and has not responded to any of my personal e-mails. Either he’s busy, on vacation, or finally went on that murder/suicide spree he’s been promising.

It is a strange phenomenon that happens on message boards. I’ve encountered it elsewhere. You get to know someone, sometimes intimate personal details of their life, you feel like a friend, you cry when they hurt you share their joy when things go well then, poof! one day they’re just gone.

In some cases I’ve wondered if the person actually died.

On another message board there was a huge controversy about a much beloved member being reported as having died and then coming back to life in such a way as to call into question his entire existance. He’s no longer on the board and the emotions toward him range from betrayal to rage to sadness and a sense of loss. The worst part is the wondering what the heck happened and knowing that you’ll never know.
It is a strange, strange worlld we live in.

Blimey!

Busy bunch of months, loves. Moved and took my slow Internet connection, and Mr. MercyStreet’s crappo computer, with me. In free time, working on This Damn Old House.

Even though I wasn’t mentioned by name, I’ve been off the boards enough to make some people think I’ve dropped off the face of the earth.

Explanation? Serving my country in Sri Lanka, trips to Cairo, Malysia, Thailand, and Singapore, singlehandedly covering a Parliamentary election, and pushing through several million dollars for demining programs so eight year-old girls don’t have to get prothetic legs (like I’ve seen all too much whil I’ve been here).

Oh, and then there was the nervous breakdown. And the quitting smoking.

On the plus side, I got my next assignment the other day. And bought a custom rapier, and I don’t know which I’m happier about.

Maybe they’re all locked up

  • I think they were all captured by Space Aliens and are secretely being held on Mars being slowly oked and probed to death*

False God, don’tcha know you are not allow a Life outside of the Dope?

If you have a Life you are obligated to write about it in funny, dramatic, mocking detail here, so that we may tell you a) awww poor baby. b) Get Over Yourself c) You Rock! D) Non-Sequitors these are always thrown in for free in every situation, kinda like a set of Ginsu Knives.

That said, you’ve received THE MEMO, you need to tell us all about everything. Especially the nervous breakdown. Emotional Trainwrecked People are our speciality here.

What ever happened to oldscratch?

He had over 4,000 posts, wooed us with stories of canine analingus, and for some reason hasn’t posted since February of last year.

oldscratch is alive and well… he was living in GA for most of 2001 till recently and had limited internet access. He just recently moved back to the Bay Area, like within the past couple weeks. We still chat from time to time. (If you’re an old-timer you’ll recall that he and I have a “history” ;)) I’ll let him know he’s missed.

Scattershooting while wondering whatever happened to Tranquillis and Ethilrist

Okay, one by one:

US Foreign Service Officer on assignment to Sri Lanka.

Got to go to a conference in Cairo on the government’s dime, also rest and relaxation travel to Malaysia and Thailand as part of my benefits package.

Singapore was a medical evacuation for my wife, who needed a noninvasive but not-able-to-be-done-here procedure.

Parliamentary election was me glued to my cellphone on my birthday coordinating observation teams. More fun than it sounds and I didn’t get a lot of sleep that weekend.

Demining program – there’s about 1-15. million landmines in Sri Lanka. Part of my job is getting them out of the ground. Through good looks and charm, I spearheaded a program that will do that three times faster than if I hadn’t.

Nervous breakdown was just too much internalizing and not dealing with stress well until something snapped and I just wasn’t all there any more. No drugs, no therapy, it just gradually got better.

Smoke free for three weeks, one day and fifteen hours, and my next assignment will be Lima, Peru.

He’s moved to the UnaBoard - guess he likes her playground better than this one.

I miss Mega the Roo. She was stinkin’ hilarious. I remember her from the “Odd little habits you have thread” where she talked about man-pickles. That was in June of 2003 and she’s only posted twice since then, in January of 2004 and again about a month ago.

I’m back, but don’t tell anybody. sshhhh…

Finally got a temp job (two months doing WebTrends stuff in downtown Minneapolis), so I have an Internet connection that’s fast enough for the SDMB.
