In the context of food, it’s a burger you get at In-N-Out. Otherwise, it’s a basketball statistic. Despite the fact that I rarely eat at In-N-Out, have never ordered a double-double there, and am a basketball fan, the former was the first thing that popped into my head.
Basketball for me too
Basketball.
Um … I was going to say “Tim Hortons coffee,” but I changed my mind.
Cribbage slang for me. A “double run” is something like 7-7-8-9-K. A “double double” would be 7-7-8-9-9.
That’s what I was going to say. I actually was surprised it wasn’t in the poll, even as a joke answer.
Coffee from Tim Horton’s. Or McDonald’s in Canada, as well, which competes quite aggressively with timmie’s for the breakfast market.
As a side note, double doubles are gross. I drank those back in high school if I needed a pick-me-up, at a time when I tried forcing caffeine down like a drug without getting the taste of - shudder COFFEE - in my mouth. Kids these days have Red Bull and Rockstar vending machines, so it’s a moot point.
While my normal morning routine involves a trip to my keurig brewer/Starbucks, if I’m at Timmy’s, I get a regular (1 cream, 1 sugar). Anything more than that is lukewarm and syrupy to me nowadays :-S. I saw a lady get a French Vanilla Double Double, and I nearly shuddered at the thought…
A basketball thing.
The basketball meaning first, then MacBeth. Never heard of the coffee or burger usage, even though I’ve been to In-N-Out Burger a few times. (Never been to Tim Horton’s).
Now I want another Tims.
I’ve only heard the phrase a few times. It’s always been used to refer a burger with two patties.
Double digits in points and any other category, actually - could be rebounds, assists, steals or even blocks.
This. And a Coke. :drools:
Basketball for me too.
I’m a little surprised that the “something else” option isn’t running away with this poll.
me too. it makes we wonder what the demographic breakdown of the board is.
Basketball (usually double figures in points scored and rebounds, but sometimes assists).
I’ve never heard “double double” refer to either of the first two choices in the poll.
Yes. He was exulting over getting free upgrades from local merchants.
It’s a type of burger from In-N-Out. Never heard it in any other context.
Never heard it before . . . except in Macbeth.
First thought was the burger, second was basketball. So I went with the burger.
