Oh! How about British flapjacks (as opposed to American flapjacks, AKA pancakes).
I can’t really think of anything healthier or better than chocolate. Maybe I would add berries and cream.
Yeah, darker chocolate. Work your way up to the 86% stuff, which once you get used to it is delicious (and rich enough that you only want a little).
In what universe are graham crackers a healthy snack? And adding dried fruit to chocolate is just increasing the sugar content.
how do you do that? I can’t get above 72% so I just stay there. every now & then I get some of the 50% or 60% and it’s SO fantastic I have to make noises when it’s in my mouth. ![]()
How about a couple of cinnamon graham crackers? (I think someone suggested digestive biscuits - graham crackers are about the same thing but more widely available/cheaper in the US. )
You’re Russian - how about ciriniki? (For nonrussians - ricotta cheese, egg, raisins, a little sugar, mix, fry)
It helps if you go off sugar entirely for a while. If nothing else in your diet is sweet, the little bit of sugar in chocolate tastes quite sweet. Bonus is that you lose your taste for very sweet eats, they just taste cloying.
Chocolate before bedtime isn’t the best idea as you’re adding caffeine to your system at the time when you need it least. I’d stick with some almonds and perhaps a bit of cheese, if you really have to eat before bedtime. Or perhaps some walnuts, cheddar and some apple slices.
I eat 4 squares of 90% daily. Anything below 85-86% just tastes like sugar to me. When I was a kid, Hershey’s Special Dark was “dark.” Now that, and all the “darks” and “baking chips” in the 50-63% range, taste gross to me.
That’s a good point, too.
Especially if you are going to switch to darker chocolate.
I find that peanut butter can often fill the spot of chocolate. Almond butter does even better.
But now that I think about it a bit more, neither would go too well with tea.
And, no I didn’t spend an hour thinking about it. I just happened to see the thread again. Honest.
The universe of 1829 before people started adding honey or refined sugar. Healthy and reduces those carnal urges right before bedtime. What more could you ask?
All I can tell you is don’t choose carrot sticks. Nope. Don’t go well with tea at all.

The graham cracker was originally conceived of as a health food as part of the Graham Diet, a regimen to suppress what he considered unhealthy carnal urges, the source of many maladies according to Graham. Reverend Graham would often lecture on “self-abuse” as masturbation was commonly called at the time. Graham would often say how these experiences were inspired by children eating crackers.[1] One of his many theories was that one could curb one’s sexual appetite by eating bland foods. Another man who held this belief was John Harvey Kellogg, the inventor of the corn flakes cereal.[2]

Sounds legit.
Seriously, WTF? Crackers make children horny? Brilliant science, right there.
