Specifically a crunchie bar ( do you have those in murka?)
I just finished a crunchie and washed it down with tea just hot enough to bare.
Strawberries and cream also go together brilliantly. (add ice-cream and you are in heaven)
Mmmm. I’m just sipping on hot Assam tea and you make me wish for some chocolate.
Actually I find it depends. If it is so hot like today I’m fine with just tea. On other days I like to nibble on a bit of chocolate, or munch cookies with it. Cake is good, too, or brownies, or muffins!
I think the combination of foods gives a nice sensory event in your mouth: you first drink the tea, which cleans your mouth of previous tastes and lays a warm, mild blanket for your taste buds. Then you take a tiny bite of chocolate that melts and spreads its o-so-sugaree flavor over your palate, only to have it dissolved again in another gulp of tea. Or you nibble on a cookie, having the dry substance absorbing the moisture and releasing its sweetness, then sweeping it away with tea like a sandcastle in the upcoming tide. Its like a tasting movie.
Ooh, Crunchie bars with coffee. Now that’s a match made in heaven. I don’t want to analyse why this is so, because that would ruin it. So would looking at the nutritional content of said Crunchie bar.
I’m also in agreement about the strawberries and cream. One thing I don’t understand is when people put sugar on strawberries, though - they just don’t go together, IMHO.
And then, there’s stuff that you wouldn’t think of mixing, but they turn out well. Like… I don’t know, when you’ve got some French fries and a '99 Flake - dip the French fries in the ice-cream and then try it - wonderful.
McDonalds milkshake is so thik it’s almost icecream. Usually when I get a McD I eat it like the world is going to end in 2 minutes. Having rammed a handfull of fries in my mouth I guzzled some milkshake before I had a chance to swallow the fires.
I love sweet things with my tea. I tend to put off eating chocolate unless I have a cuppa tea to have with it. Just about all of my friends eat their Tim Tams (an Aussie chocolate biscuit) with either a cuppa tea or coffee…it’s the best way to eat them.
** Necromancer** I am like that. I don’t have a sweet tooth. I absolutely cannot eat a chocolate bar on it’s own. If I have one I will save it until I make a cuppa. I am almost neurotic about it. today I was watching Top Gear (UK car show) Jerremy Clarkson was driving to john o’groats in a Jag. He decided to have his dinner while driving. His dinner consisted of 5 (varying brand) chocolate bars. I was almost cringing at this sight “CLARKSON! WHERE’S YOUR CUP OF TEA?! ARGHH!”
