My cousin claims to have actually once met a man (English) who was virulently bigoted against the Swiss, and went off on a long rant about how the “bloody neutrals” had sat out, and profited from, both world wars. I do not know if he had any particular rude word for them, however.

I think “Fence” needs to be adopted as the universal Swiss epithet. Consider:

  1. Their neutrality – “On the fence”;
  2. Their handling of Nazi gold and funds – A “fence” is a dealer in stolen goods;
  3. Their refusal to admit refugees during WWII;
  4. Their exclusionism – won’t join the EU, naturalization is harder than in other European countries, etc.

What about gnome?

Although off-topic, the French Canadian word for a chipmunk is “un suisse” (literally, “a swiss”) so you could turn it around and call him a chipmunk. But no one would understand it. But “gnome” certainly suggests a Swiss.
