Mostly Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3, which I picked up about two weeks ago. The best tactical strategy game I’ve played in a long time. The story’s just alright but it’s well told and the characters are interesting.
I’ve also been pretty much addicted to Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour. I can’t believe what I’ve been missing by waiting so long to try these games out.
Well if everyone is using this thread again…
I’ve played some Sphinx on the XBox. I heard it was an interesting overlooked platformer and some sections are pretty good. Unfortunately other sections are hampered by weak controls and annoyances. I’ve reached a point where I’m not really sure I want to push on with it.
I’ve played about four missions into Trapt on the PS2. I was aware that there was a Tecmo’s Deception sequel on the PS2 and knew they changed the name but could never remember it when the time came to grab games. I finally stumbled on it at the right moment and so far so good. I preferred luring people to their doom rather than setting up trap chains and setting them off myself but I can’t deny the fun of rigging Rube Goldburg death machines and setting them off (okay, the magnext wall pulls them in, the rolling bomb comes down the stairs and throws them to this square which launches them into the electric chair). I already find myself wishing for a little more flexibility in trap design. I am amused for the time being, though.
Metal Saga was a surprise gem. It’s like someone who had only played jRPG’s and had heard of Fallout tried to remake the game. The story is very slight. Instead you get a tank and then drive around a mad max style wasteland where automated poorly designed death machines have gone feral that you fight in standard jRPG combat. You’ll find towns, upgrade equipment, and generally explore. Oh, and I now have a chihuahua that has laser eyes. It’s quirky, odd, and a surprising amount of fun. Right up my alley.
I just ordered a few more used games since I expect I’ll be winding these down through the weekend and into the week: Steambot Chronicles which is what I was looking for when I stumbled onto Metal Saga, Killer 7 which I decided to finally get around to playing, and Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders because I’m one of those people who lets the Dynasty Warriors series go on so long and was curious about this knock off.
Tell me about it. When I first saw them I thought, “Yeah, interesting concept but definitely not for me.” People who can’t connect with the pretend to play music theme underestimate how much fun it is.
Lately I have been playing GT5 prologue on the PS3. I bought a Driving Force GT wheel to play it with. I am so hooked already that I have been forgetting to eat.
Just getting into Dawn of War II. The single player is not something like most RTS - it feels like a cross of a RPG-RTS, and I feel it is a waste that they remove some features from the DoW I for the single player campaign. It is a lot less forgiving now once you deployed onto the field. Equip your squad with the wrong weapon and you are pretty much hosed.
The campaign is pretty much on the short side too; though I am wondering how many side missions they got. The voice briefing for each of them seems to be unique, so I am waiting for them to repeat, or run out or figure if they are given by a random number generator.
Spiltting my time between mother 3 and Indigo Prophecy(also known as Fahrenheit).
Mother 3 I’m very much enjoying, though it’s occasionally rather difficult and grindtastic. The Story and Experience…not quite what I expected at first. Not bad, but it goes off in different directions.
Indigo Prophecy. The closest thing I’ve found to a “fear simulator”. The disturbing and wierd events that occur have a negative effect on the characters emotional/mental states. The action sequences are basically quicktime events, some of which work well, and some of which, not so well(some sequences feel like gratuitous mini-games). It has drawn me in, though.
I’m playing Gears of War II, which is great. There’s a lot of it that is much like the first one, some improvements, but the atmosphere is second to none. It’s also just a straight up fun no frills shooter.
And as always the best game ever: Eve Online.
I just got a bunch of new PS3 games, but this has proved to be a bad idea. I simply can’t play them all at once.
They include Little Big Planet, Valkryria Chronicles, Metal Gear Solid 4, BioShock, and MLB: The Show 09.
Thankfully, I just beat Fallout 3, so that can be pushed aside for now, but I still have to get through GTA:IV and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
I’m not buying any new games until Christmas.
Worms, on my mobile phone
When I get a desk in my room and I’ve cleaned up my HD somewhat, I might be able to squeeze that old copy of Shogun Total War on it. If not, then I’m kind of stuck. I wouldn’t mind getting Starcraft out for another batter, that or Total Annihilation.
Just picked up Legends of the Ring for the SNES for the first time in ages. Man, was that a good game, or what?
I’m almost finished with FO3 and also started playing Bioshock again, this time on Hard with the Vita-Chambers turned off.
I’ve gotten through the Medical pavillion, and it isn’t as hard as I thought it woud be on the Hard setting. I’ve got full reserves of health and eve, even. (I never used the Vita-Chambers when I played on Normal anyway, I always reloaded if I died.)
I’m on my first playthrough in BioShock and I just read that first timers should probably harvest all of the Little Sisters so that they can access the most upgrades and find out which are best to use.
Well, for some reason, I didn’t save my damn game before harvesting the first LS, and I also went all noble and saved her (as well as the second I came across).
Now, I have to play all the way through the first act pretty much just to get to that point. Woulda saved myself a lot of time if I had saved …
Don’t Harvest. Honestly. Regardless of difficulty setting. You only lose 160 ADAM overall by saving them throughout the entire game. On top of this by harvesting you sacrifice some loot and tonics you can only get by saving. You should easily be able to get the necessary Gatherers Garden upgrades through the ADAM you get by saving the sisters, though, you might have to postpone some of them until you get the 200 bonus for every three you save.
There is a tonic/plasmid guide on gamefaqs that is great for those who want to know what tonics are best for what they are trying to accomplish. Use that if you must. It really doesn’t spoil anything. And as I said, by harvesting you won’t find all the tonic/plasmids anyway, so you won’t figure out which are best to use.
But definitely don’t play on hard as your fist playthrough if you don’t want to use the tonic guide. On Normal you can forget the guide and largely figure out which plasmids are best on your own. Even with saving the sisters you will have ADAM to spare.
Also before the patch, there was a glitch in the Wharf screen that would spawn two little sisters by the docks. Giving you an extra little sister on that level. I don’t know if the patches have fixed that or not, but if you find a fourth little sister, you can harvest that one if you want for a bonus 200 eve. (And the middle-ending will result.) Alternately, you can save the first 12 sisters and harvest the 13th and still get the good ending. (The game only counts the actions on the first 12).
