Basically, it’s a horrible salty paste that Australians try to pass off as food.
I ended up going to Shells with my co-workers, and had a seafood po’boy sandwich with fried shrimp, scallops, clams, and catfish, fries, and creamy cole slaw with mandarin orange wedges in it.
Lunch was the special of the day at Boswell’s. Turkey reuben with fries & sweet tea. Plus I bought a t-shirt.
I got ~150 air-miles for lunch, too. I love traveling!
Szechuan noodle and veggie salad with tofu. Very good. And a butter tart.
Half a pot of coffee and a danish. I wanted some chips and salsa, but the ants invaded my chips bastards.
It was (6 hours ago) a Subway roasted chicken sub on whole wheat bread. With lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, cucumbers, mustard and light mayonnaise. And a diet Coke (brought from home).
A slab of pork with salt and pepper, grilled on the barbecue till medium done, thin-sliced and layered on fresh toasted baguette with mayo and bbq sauce.
Pretzels.
A peach, peeled and sliced.
Cranberry juice.
Hmm, now I’m hungry again.
Hey, now! I’m not Australian, and I think it’s a very good food!
Yesterday I did end up eating left-over deadcow. Today I’m thinking of making that fish recipe I posted in the ‘Fich recipes’ thread in Café. Or not. I haven’t even had coffee yet.
Today I went out to lunch with the other tech writers, and had a very good burger (medium-well, with lettuce, mayo, and ketchup) and some excellent beer-battered onion rings. And an iced tea.
Afterwards we went to the Great Harvest Bread Company next door to the restaurant, where I picked up some cinnamon chip cream cheese scones and a loaf of apple scrapple bread (chunks of apple are baked in, with a layer of brown sugar on top). I haven’t gotten into the scones yet, but I had some of the bread for dessert tonight.
Dinner was nothing to write home about: microwaved Hot Pockets steak and cheese “subs,” and the aforementioned apple scrapple. And some iced tea. Cheap and quick, but that’s what I was in the mood for.
(Hmm, I think that also describes a few of my ex boyfriends…)
Ok, so, it’s a horrible salty paste that Australians and some Americans try to pass off as food.
Several hours ago, but I had an A&W cheesburger with fries and root beer.
Baja chicken TV dinner and frozen yogurt for supper.
Today, our lunch will consist of homemade pork BBQ sandwiches and a salad.
A toad in the hole and a flagon of ale…
(I’m going to the Ren Faire today)
Getting closer. Just replace ‘horrible’ with ‘yummy’ and you’ll be fine!
I didn’t have lunch yesterday. I didn’t eat breakfast until 10:00, and it was huge. I started making a cheese-and-salsa omelette, but then I saw the tilapia sitting in the fridge. Hm. Better use it before it goes off. So I sautéed some minced garlic, half a small coarse-chopped yellow onion, about 1½ teaspoons capers, and a sliced Roma tomato in olive oil and added two tilapia fillets. So I’m having an omelette and fish. (Usually when I have eggs and fish for breakfast I’ll just have scrambles eggs and a tin of kippers. This was like eating two meals.) I had a BLT and a green side-salad for dinner about ten hours later.
I don’t know what’s for lunch today. Maybe a Vegemite sandwich, and maybe a cubesteak sandwich. We’re shooting a wedding this afternoon, and they’re going to feed us.
Lunch today was Stouffer’s spaghetti and meatballs, with a side of apple scrapple bread. I definitely got my carbs today, because I had two cinnamon chip cream cheese scones for breakfast. Yuuuummm.
Dinner was frozen chicken kiev, with a Breyers strawberry ice cream bar for dessert.
Usually I just drink water at home, but I bought a 6-pack of iced tea at the store last night and so that’s what I’ve been drinking all day.
Sorry, my momma raised me to tell the truth.
Tomorrow’s lunch is verrry special indeed: cold gigot à la moutarde*, a classic Julia Child recipe that has been a family specialty since the 1960s.
*roast leg of lamb in musrad sauce
I don’t know how Southerners produced such a tradition of great food in their climate. Temps hit 90 and my appetite shuts down.
I’ve been noshing on fresh veggies and tuna–sort of a salad Nicoise–and other cold dishes.
Veggie thing: mixed and chilled a big bowl of blanched green beans and zucchini, chopped scallions, red bell pepper, English cucumber; grape tomatoes and Kalamata olives. Plopped a generous spoonful on a plate, drizzled with balsamic vinagrette. Ate it with a packet of herb and garlic tuna. Now that the fixin’s are made, it’ll be my default meal for a while.
Dinner tonight was a southwestern bulgar and veggie thing. Fresh corn, scraped off the cob, quick-sauteed with some red onion, then cooled. Mixed with bulgar wheat, chopped cilantro, finely diced red bell pepper and zucchini. Dressed with fresh lime juice, a titch of garlic, cumin and good olive oil.
And a slice of dead-ripe watermelon, chilled to an inch of its life.
