What's going on when something you ate isn't "sitting right"?

Sometimes you’ll eat something, and it just doesn’t “sit right” in your stomach. I’m not talking about something that gives you gas, heartburn, or diarrhea. I’m talking about something that just doesn’t make your stomach feels so good.

I had a veggie sandwich today that only had white bread, lettuce, tomato, and a pickle. Everything was fresh, nothing old, rotten or moldy. Yet it feels like it’s in my stomach trying to punch it’s way out.

What’s going on when something doesn’t sit right in your stomach?

good question, with me it tends to be a matter of the medications i am on making me queasy, and something in the food [usually fat content or pig products] hits me wrong.

hm, tomato and pickle are both a bit on the acid side, kicking up a bit of acid reflux action? What did you have to drink with it?

I would have suggested preservatives, but it doesn’t sound as if the OP had any.

My WAG is that the tomato was green and artificially ripened, green tomatoes can cause that exact feeling. Too much salt, as in extra pickle, could also cause that.

I think the OP is not asking “What is causing it?”, but rather “What is going on in his stomach, what processes are underway, to cause that feeling?”

It looked pretty ripe when I picked it off the vine and tasted very good.
