I currently have “categories” as my SDMB Home page. I start there and look
in the categories i’m interested in - usually in the same order. It would be handy
if i could have them listed in that order.
I also use U to go back up to my home page.
No, it’s not the same. But you could create a folder in your favorites named “SDMB Categories”. Then put a shortcut to each of your category pages in that folder and arrange them in the order you prefer.
It would be a habit change for you, yes. But it lets you make your stuff work your way. Which is (probably) nobody else’s way. My way is nobody else’s way either.
You can even use the features built into the Discourse hamburger menu to put your own custom set of “favorites” inside the hamburger menu. Make a section labeled Categories and put whichever specific categories you want in there in whatever order you want.
