In this thread, Excalibre gets an official mod warning w/comment about mods discussing posting future for him for calling Q.E.D., “G.E.D.”.
I know the rule.
I recall the circumstances wherein it came to play (posters refusing to call a particular poster by their current name, vs. a past name). That type of thing I can definately get behind, since A. It circumvents the entire reason a poster may choose a different name and B. it can cause confusion.
and I applaud the mods in that they’ve don’t pull this rule up for any common misspellings or typos of folks’ names, only enforcing when it appears to be an intentional slight.
and, the whole ‘making fun of some one’s name’ generally seems to me to be childish, rarely funny, and all in all a piss poor way of making a point. Generally speaking in the past (when it was allowed) I almost always thought less of the person employing the tactic, vs. the object, but that’s neither here nor there.
However, in a forum where it’s perfectly acceptable to call a poster “you goat felching bulimic treasonous moronic amoeba”, to sanction off “but don’t make fun of his name” seems, well, more than a bit odd.
Excalibre deserved the warning for breaking a known rule. (MHO and all) But I submit that if a poster is so thin skinned that they go ballistic over someone poking fun at their user name, they shouldn’t be posting here in the first place.
Can I point something out here? I misspelled Q.E.D.'s name on accident, during a comment while I was admonishing him to keep off-board matters off-board.Q.E.D. has, through some chain of confused reasoning, decided that he has a personal conflict with me (he doesn’t) based upon off-board stuff. In the message in question, I was asking him to leave off-board matters off board. Why did I get a warning over a typo, when Q.E.D. didn’t get one for trying to dredge up some other problem he has with me in a completely inappropriate forum?

but my comment about thin skinned still holds true for me. Hell, some one years ago did an intentional gig on my user name and all I did was a mental " :rolleyes: " - I mean it didn’t even rise up to the level of posting a rejoinder. that’s the sort of thing a child under 5 would get bent about, I would think. Criminey, IRL, folks used to intentionally mis prounounce my real first name in jr. high (damn the association and their hit song!), and even then all I did was the mental :rolleyes:

I know I’ve called Lute Skywatcher by his old name before in some long rambling pointless post before.
Plus, mentioning that you put them on your ignore list is also forbidden. You can say their mother fucked Hitler until his one testical fell off, then gave Mengele a rim job 3 months after he died, but don’t make fun of the username or mention the list. Feelings might get hurt!

My beef with you in the now-closed EC pit thread was based solely on your disingenous attack on my post in the bug spray thread, wherein I asked you to defend your mischaracterization of my post.
