Home PC: Loreena McKennitt - the mask and the mirror
Work Portable: The Donnas - Spend the Night
Agalloch - The Mantle
Sample MP3 here.
Mad Caddies - Just One More
I’m a huge Caddies fan- there’s something about the way they cheerfully blend traditionally separate genres that I really dig. No other band, to my knowledge, has successfully fused ska, punk, dixieland, and ragtime in a single song (“Villains,” which you can download here), and certainly not with such wild abandon. Their horn section is also among the best I’ve heard in rock music.
In my changer:
New Order - Substance
The Slackers - Better Late Than Never
Weezer - Blue
Bikini Kill - ‘CD version of the first two records’
Los Angeles Guitar Quartet - LAGQ
songs from the UK children’s show Bagpuss
In my CD player right at this moment… The Muswell Hillbillies by the Kinks. IMHO their best album.
In my CD player nearly all the time… Left, Love and Leaving by the Detroit Cobras. Kickass garage rock covers of some great motown songs by this female fronted band.
In the car:
At home:
A “Best of 2002” mix I burned. First three tracks are Foo Fighters “All My Life”, Sonic Youth’s “The Empty Page”, and Spoon’s “The Way We Get By”.

I’m listening to Pinback’s S/T, I’m not enjoying it. I think I’ll listen to the Pixie’s Bossanova.

After reading this thread I had to make a quick update to my selection. The new list is:
Rancid - Let’s Go
Blink 182 - Dude Ranch
NOFX - Heavy Petting Zoo
Black Flag - Wasted Again
Buzzcocks - Singles Going Steady
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
You know, I’ve argued to more than one person that Never Mind the Bollocks is about the best rock album ever.
In my computer CD player now: Sibelius - Complete Symphonies #2 (3, 6, 7, Violin Concerto, etc.). About as far from the Sex Pistols as you can get…
Green Carnation, who did an album called Light of Day, Day of Darkness which I think might be right up your alley.
You could also check out my personal favorite band, Opeth. Check out their CDs Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, and Damnation (when it comes out in about a month).
Enjoy!
I’ve been meaning to check out Evanescence. How are they?
Bruce Springsteen: Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ
Liz Phair: Exile in Guyville
Eminem: The Marshall Mathers LP
