What's in your liquor cabinet right now?

Lessee …

Two bottles of Franconian Zwetschge (that’s apparently also the English name)
One bottle of Franconian Quince
One botlle of Bailey’s Cream
One bottle of Walcher Grappa
One bottle of Ramazzotti
One small bottle of generic white rum (used mostly for baking)
One bottle of Borisov Vodka
One small bottle of Tunel Hierba
One bottle of Ricard

No whisky or brandy right now, although I sometimes like to drink a glass. I just don’t have the nerve to buy anything new with all those unfinished bottles sitting around.

And a shitload of bitters (Angostura, Peychaud’s, Regan’s Orange, Fee’s Orange, Fee’s Aromatic, Elmegirab’s Bokers Bitters, a bunch of little Bitter Truth sample bottles), and some older, cheaper liqueurs that I haven’t got around to throwing out yet (Hiram Walker Triple Sec, for example).

I’m on something of a tiki drink kick lately, so I’m kind of rum-heavy at the moment.

I’m on a tiki kick too, been playing around with falernum lately.

Nice!

A handle of Captain Morgan
A bottle of Havana Club Anejo Especial
A bottle of Bacardi Reserva
2 bottles of Don Q Cristal
A bottle of Malibu

Can’t wait to get home and have a few drinks…

A full 750ml bottle of Appleton Estate rum.
The dregs, maybe two shots worth, of a bottle of Mt Gay rum.

I picked up the Appleton duty free when coming back home probably 5 years ago.
Went through about 8 to 10 shots worth of the Mt Gay last election night. Started early knowing I would want to be plowed regardless of results.

Hendrick’s gin
Luxardo Marischino liqueur
Creme de Violette (top 3 items plus lemon juice make an Aviation, an excellent cocktail)
Grey Goose vodka
Appleton rum
Glenfiddich scotch
Jack Daniels bourbon
Jagermeister
Schnapps: Apple, cinnamon (these two combined with apple cider on Halloween) and peach
Grand Marnier
Cointreau
Chambord
Remy Martin cognac
Coirvoisier cognac
Various sherry, port, Marsala
Limoncello
Various other liqueurs, including several that friends from Bavaria have brought. Pretty bottles but I probably won’t like them - they seem to like a lot of herbal/medicinal stuff that I think is nasty.

The above is stored in/on a built in cabinet in the dining room. There are bottles of wine in a wine rack and under counter wine fridge in the kitchen, and beer in a small fridge in the garage.

It’s not so much a cabinet, as it is a couple shelves…right now we have:

Jack Daniels
Jameson Irish Whiskey
Lagavulin Scotch
Laphroaig Scotch
Chivas Regal Scotch
Hendricks Gin
Tanqueray Gin
Bacardi Light Rum
Camarena Tequila
Absolut Vodka
Disaronno Liqueur
Chambord Liqueur
Depuyper Triple Sec

We also have grenadine, lime juice, tonic water, seltzer, ginger ale, and ginger beer scattered about the kitchen.

right now, I have a bottle of Laphroaig for me, there is a bottle of SoCo for Mrs. Guest. We don’t drink a lot, and she hardly ever varies what she drinks.

I drink very little. Maybe 3-4 times a year. I also find it strange to always have large amounts of alcohol on hand. But I also find it more strange that so many people who do drink regularly seem to have trouble planning ahead. Case in point being a recent thread where someone was complaining that he and his wife couldn’t have a drink to celebrate her turning 21 because the liquor stores couldn’t be open on Sundays where he lived. If you knew there’s no liquor sales on Sunday, and you knew the first day your wife can drink legally would be Sunday, why didn’t you buy a bottle or three on Friday or Saturday?

My interest recently switched from beer to bourbon. My budget is fairly limited so I don’t keep a lot on hand. I’ve been working down a list of <$35 options I researched. I only keep three or four bottles at a time and don’t buy another until one is gone. My goal is to learn as much as I can about what bourbon tastes like and find one or two (or more) good every day options.

What I have now:
High West Rendezvous - My wife picked this up as a gift for me. I wouldn’t have bought it for myself because of the price point, but damn, it’s good. I also intend to let this sit and finish slowly. I’m interested in how it changes in the bottle. Basically I’m breaking all my rules on this one.

Knob Creek Reserve - A place the next town over had a sale for $33. It’s pretty darn good for Beam. I’d get it again.

Very Old Barton BiB - My cheap option. Part of my exploration structure is to keep a handle of cheap stuff and a couple 750s of nicer bourbons at a time. BiBs fit the bill perfectly. Evan Williams BiB was great and I think I like Barton even better. I’ll probably try Beam BiB next, but Barton may be The One. For $25, it’s a great value. I count myself lucky to have it too, because apparently you can’t find it much outside of KY.

Eagle Rare 10 is probably my favorite thing I’ve tried so far. Right now Dickel Hand Select is on sale so I’ll probably grab that this week.

Balvenie DoubleWood 12
Blantons (a private bottling from a friend)
New Amsterdam Gin
Aviation Gin
Kraken Black Rum
Svedka Vodka
Espolon Tequila Reposado
Jack Daniels
A decanter of bourbon, something cheap
~3L of a blended bottom shelf scotch that I barrel aged
A Russian liquor
A bottle of two or port
Several bottles of wine, various varietals

It’s a distilled spirit. It won’t.

Well, correction. Once you get down to the bottom 5th of a bottle you should probably kill it off, because the evaporation space will cause the booze to eventually degrade. But spirits aren’t wines - they don’t “get better with age” or anything like that.

**Maine Craft Distilling: **
Queequeg Rum (spiced)
Ration Expedition Style Rum
Sprigge Barrel Rested Gin
Chesuncook Botanical Spirit (made from carrots!)
Blueberry Moonshine

Cold River: (made with Maine potatoes)
Traditional Gin
Distiller’s Reserve Vodka
Vodka
Blueberry Vodka

for the rare occasions when I’m out of the good stuff:
Absolut Vodka

for mixing:
O3 Orange Liqueur
Christian Brothers Honey Brandy
Captain Apple Jack Apple Brandy
Mr. Boston Blackberry Flavored Brandy
Mr. Boston Apricot Flavored Brandy
DeKuyper Peachtree Liqueur
DeKuyper Red Apple Liqueur
DeKuyper Melon Liqueur
DeKuyper Sour Apple Liqueur (probably from college)

Since it’s margarita season, there’s a bottle of Jose Cuervo Especial.

I always keep a bottle of George Dickel (black label) in honor of my dad. It’s typically consumed following the lighting of the Christmas trees.

I also have a tiny bottle labeled “Moldova” that I inherited from Dad…no idea what it is. He never opened it.

The wines and meads are kept in little racks in the pantry. Beer is in the fridge (the one in the garage, in accordance with local tradition).

One less bottle of Tullamore Dew.
