Please note that I wrote PHYSICAL attractiveness. I’m sure someone will come along any moment to say intellect and personality are what really wets his/her whistle. While I agree, that’s not the question and this is a poll, note a debate. Hence the forum.
So here is the question:
Of a person’s face and body, is the more important factor for you in calling a person sexually attractive? Assume, for the sake of this discussion, that we’re talking about someone of appropriate for your sexual identity and orientation; also assume that whichever factor you choose is not deformed, misshapen, or otherwise repellent.
My first instinct on seeing the thread title was to say ‘mind’, but you ruled that out.
Of ‘face’ and ‘body’, I would tentatively say ‘face’, but so much is in the behaviour, rather than the still appearance. I’ve met so many women who would be plain or unattractive in a still photograph, but who just light up the room in person, and that’s a function of how they behave.
A great body with face that requires a brown paper bag is a complete turnoff. An attractive face with a body that needs lipo is a turnoff, but not quite as much.
The reason I specifically excluded personality is that, in answering such questions, I prefer to restrict myself to persons I do not know and don’t expect or intend to meet. In other words, if you asked me whether I was more attracted to my wife’s face, body, or mind, I’d have a hard time answering, but it is the full compleat Kim that I love.
On the other hand, let’s take Natalie Portman. Don’t know her, don’t expect ever to meet her, don’t know anything about her personality and don’t want to. I think she’s gorgeous because of her face; her body is just so-so. Contrariwise, Jessica Alba is a similar body type, but has a face I find to be, at best, painfully dull. She doesn’t do it for me.
I also might have said ‘mind’ but then I realised lately that it’s more about my ‘mind’ convincing the ‘face’ or ‘body’ to have sex with me, for once in their curious generic lives.
But I would say generally ‘face’, unless they have a truly insurmountable vagina down there.
Assuming that we’re keeping the body in the “average” range, I’d say face. I believe that most people would choose a gorgeous face on an average body over a gorgeous body with an average face. I also believe that most people would choose an average face on an average body before a gorgeous face on a very overweight or underweight body.
I´m suprised so many people are choosing face. All the people I know tell me body is more important, and yes the “just put a bag over the face” reasoning come up alot.
I think a nice face can be really enduring. A nice body too, to be sure, but there are some faces that are almost enchanting.
Either way, both tend to fade away sooner or later so, it dosen´t matter too much.
A body makes you do-able. A face makes you date-able. Your friends making the “bag over the face” comments are most likely talking about whether they’d “hit it”, which is an acceptable manly discussion, and not whether they’d want to date her, which is less manly.
