I got an Xbox 1 for Xmas, (I have a good wife ) and am getting close to finishing off Witcher 3 (including the two expansions).
I’m in the mood to continue on with some more CRPG action, so anyone like to recommend what game I should pick up next? I’m not wedded to a fantasy setting, so Fallout 4 is certainly on the list of potentials. What else is good, or even something coming soon?
I enjoyed Witcher 3 and I also enjoyed both games from the Tomb Raider reboot. It’s a lot more on rails than Witcher but I liked combat and puzzle solving.
Fallout 4 isn’t a CRPG. Neither is the Witcher 3 technically speaking, but it’s an action RPG that’s cut form the same cloth as CRPG’s - where narrative and character development is a big focus, and where narrative agency means something other than having a list of questions to ask characters in the world.
Witcher 3 is pretty unique in the AAA space precisely because of it’s adherence to some of those CRPG’s mechanics.
You may want to try the new Mass Effect game ME:Andromeda, coming out in a week I think? Dragon Age inquisition is another ARPG with large open spaces to explore, just don’t go in expecting anything like the Witcher in terms of side content and story and influence over same.
Fallout 4 was a big disappointment to me, but it’s still one really cool world to explore.
I’d be surprised if you haven’t played Skyrim, but since it isn’t mentioned, I’d definitely recommend Skyrim Special Edition for your X-Bone. From what I’ve seen and heard of Fallout 4, Skyrim still seems to be the superior game (at least by a little bit), and there are a ton of mods that can add a lot of content to what’s in the default game.
