What's on your antenna?

Over the Christmas season a Jack-In-The-Box Reindeer-Jack ball adorned the radio antenna of my truck. Now that the season is passed, I have reverted to a Blinky the Fish topper.

What bit of foam wobbles atop your antenna?

It’s sad that so many modern cars don’t have antenna which means the grand tradition of the antenna ball may slowly become extinct.

Anyway, I’m currently on my second [ulr=http://www.bughaus.com/toybox_-_antenna_balls.htm]flaming eyeboll. When this one goes, I may switch to the flaming skull or maybe the flaming ratfink. (I’m pretty partial to the flaming aspect)

I’ve got a Cowboy Cactus. He’s a cute, green guy with a cowboy hat, bandana and sunglasses. His cacti arms wiggle in the breeze as I drive.
He’s my second one. I’m about due for another new one.

Nice! If I had one, that would be it. Unfortunately, my car antennae is angled in such a way that any antennae ball tends to make a continual and disquieting THUMPA-THUMPA-THUMPA! on the hood of the car when I’m zooming down the freeway :frowning: .

There’s someone in my neighborhood who never removes an antennae ball. They just cram it down and put the next one on top. They must have 20 balls on there, it’s awesome! And such an assortment!

We were in Disneyland for their 50th and I bought several antenna balls.

I like antenna balls

I have a Mickey gradutation antenna ball from 2004. Still has his mortarboard, too.

On my old van, that actually had an antenna, I had a cute little alligator, sitting up , that I got at Gatorland in Florida. But when Dad died and I took his van over, I sold my van(and the alligator with it) since Dad’s van has the antenna built into the windshield.

I miss having an antenna. sniff

When did antenna balls originate? I don’t recall seeing them before the orange styrofoam Union Oil “76” balls appeared in the late 60’s/early 70’s. Any precursors?

No offence, but I’ve always found antenna balls to be silly.

So in reaction, I bought a ‘Barbie’-type doll and took her head off and stuck the head on the antenna of my 911.

I don’t have anything on mine, and never did.

But Pepper Mill has one of these on her van:

Makes it easier to find in parking lots.

Oh how I wish I had an antenna. :frowning:

To compensate, I have a wee sock monkey hanging from my rear view mirror.

Those are the first ones I ever saw, too.

A-HA! The history of the antenna ball.

I have a baby-elephant head from Woodland Park Zoo. I tried to find a link but was unsuccessful.

It’s the second one I’ve put on. The first was stripped by a little off-roading. Oops.

Id my car did have an antenna (it doesn’t), I would have a Steelers Terrible Towel on it right now!

(Yeah, I know, you can see that I live in Florida, but my current asignment is near Pittsburgh, and I ALWAYS root for the home team.)

Well, I have a 1979 GMC Heavy Half pickemup truck, and it has an embedded antenna in the windshield. It isn’t too powerful, so “they” did away with the idea…

So not only new cars have no antenna mast…

But my last car had a fishing lure on the antenna mast, which would smack the top of my car when it was windy. I could freak out dates and stuff and tell when we heard the >thump< >thump< and start freaking out and saying, “There is someone on top of the car!!!”
