Since the question of whether or not people can link to their blogs in their sig has been answered, I thought it was a good time for another round of “What’s on your blog?” (thread one, two)
What’s the URL to your blog?
What have you blogged about this week? If you haven’t blogged this week, does the last question make you feel vaguely guilty?
3a. Are comments from Doper visitors okay?
3b. Do you mind links from other Dopers’ blogs to yours?
Do you blog about something specific, or a little bit of everything?
This week I’ve been making more of an effort than I have for a while, so:
**Ayuh **- those New England regionalisms I asked you about I Don’t Like U - U by Kotex. Not a fan Shannon Vs Replacing a Brake Light HJNTIY - a book review of He’s Just Not That Into You
I actually just commented on your blog. That’s really cool that you read Nikki’s YA blog. I’m sort of part of that YA community, which is to say I’m Nikki’s blog roll and she’s in mine. Mine is dibblyfresh1.blogspot.com.
I haven’t blogged this week because I blog every time I see a movie. I actually don’t watch movies that often which I realize makes me unusual among movie bloggers…
3a. Comments are not only okay but appreciated! I’d love it if one of my posts started a discussion about one of these movies.
3b. Sure thing.
The title of the blog describes it: “All the movies I saw in 2010, and what I thought about them.”
To keep a record of what I thought about various movies, and to share my opinions with, I don’t know, the world of the internoodle.
I also have another, personal blog which I use partially for keeping in touch with friends/giving updates on my life and partially for squeeing or ranting about things when I can’t think of a particular person who really needs to hear them in conversation.
I put up a new book entry every Saturday. It’s a book blog and that’s it. I do feel a bit guilty if I don’t keep up, but only towards myself.
3a. Sure, comment away.
3b. Nah, don’t mind.
It’s not a very exciting blog, just books.
5.Because at the new year, there were all these reading challenges starting up, and I wanted to join. That’s the whole reason. But I’m planning to start a reading challenge myself next week, on a new blog, so stay tuned!
What have you blogged about this week? If you haven’t blogged this week, does the last question make you feel vaguely guilty?
I haven’t written in a week and a half. And vaguely.
3a. Are comments from Doper visitors okay?
Sure. Most of my stuff’s friends-only, though.
3b. Do you mind links from other Dopers’ blogs to yours?
I don’t mind at all.
Do you blog about something specific, or a little bit of everything?
A bit of everything. It’s generally just updates about my daily goings-on.
Why do you blog?
The social aspect. I’ve made lots of good friends through it.
What have you blogged about this week? If you haven’t blogged this week, does the last question make you feel vaguely guilty?
I publish a post every day and have for about 15 months now. This week’s posts have been about the World Cup.
3a. Are comments from Doper visitors okay?
Comments from anyone are okay.
3b. Do you mind links from other Dopers’ blogs to yours?
I do not mind at all.
Do you blog about something specific, or a little bit of everything?
I blog about football (soccer) history. It’s a “this day in history” type of blog. Could be an important match, a birthday, a club’s founding date, or even the premiere of a movie about football - anything with a connection to football, no matter how tenuous.
Why do you blog?
Two reasons. First - I’m writing a non-fiction book about a football team and needed to do something to establish myself as someone with some kind of authority to write the book, since I’m not a sportswriter by trade. Second - I chose a blog for which I have to write something every day to both sharpen my writing skills and ensure that I spend time writing every day. Though technically, I don’t write every day, since I usually keep a week or two ahead of the publishing schedule, which allows me to take a day or two off here and there.
This week I’ve blogged about being sick of winter (and shopping for bathers), mums who take all the photos but are never in them, complained about a news report about an IVF anniversary being used to bash older mums, pregnancy announcements of 2 friends, and my daughter crawling at 7 months and my return to work plans.
Totally welcome comments of all kinds (even the critical ones, gives me more things to blog about!)
Links make the world go around!
The blog was originally about my IVF journey, a place to vent and also a diary of sorts. Now I talk about parenting my bee, but infertility comes up from time to time.
I wanted to have a space to record how I was feeling about all sorts of things - it helps me resolve things I’m stressing about, and a way of remembering all of the little things about my girl which I know I’d forget otherwise.
But I also keep it up since I sought out IVF blogs with happy endings when I went through my treatment, and I know that reading mine is helpful to others - a nice way of paying it forwards.
Right now, it is http://fatguytri1.blogspot.com. I’ve had it for about a week or so, and will commit to an actual .com address soon, or at least a subdomain on my web design one. Basically, I committed to training for a few triathlons, so this blog is the venture along the way.
What have you blogged about this week? If you haven’t blogged this week, does the last question make you feel vaguely guilty?
I blogged in the past week - mostly basic intro stuff and then most posts are about workouts. I usually post within a day or so of a real workout and post what I’ve done.
3a. Are comments from Doper visitors okay?
Not much to comment on yet, but sure!
3b. Do you mind links from other Dopers’ blogs to yours?
Not at all. I currently get no traffic (but have not particularly tried to get traffic, either) so any links would probably help out.
Do you blog about something specific, or a little bit of everything?
Like I mentioned, it is about me training for a triathlon later this year, but I plan on continuing it with gear reviews, workout logs, etc.
Why do you blog?
It gives me someone to answer to, even if no one reads it. The simple fact of posting that I worked out means I had to do it, and that helps keep me motivated.
**1. What’s the URL to your blog?**http://the-curiously-strong-aginghippie.blogspot.com 2. What have you blogged about this week? If you haven’t blogged this week, does the last question make you feel vaguely guilty? I feel vaguely guilty if I don’t blog, but my blog is on the lighter and frothier side so nothing profound is lost if I skip a day. I usually blog on Fridays, and often I’ll mention what I’m cooking for dinner, what’s up for the weekend, and what music I’m listening to. Yesterday I put up photos of my swallowtail caterpillar invasion. 3a. Are comments from Doper visitors okay? Of course, bearing in mind that my blog is not exactly high-level intellectual discussion. 3b. Do you mind links from other Dopers’ blogs to yours? Not at all. 4. Do you blog about something specific, or a little bit of everything? Everything. 5. Why do you blog? Elfkin, you said it best. It’s cheaper than therapy.
2. What have you blogged about this week? If you haven’t blogged this week, does the last question make you feel vaguely guilty?
I blogged yesterday about a New York Times article on closed captions on the Web.
3a. Are comments from Doper visitors okay?
Absolutely.
3b. Do you mind links from other Dopers’ blogs to yours?
Of course not.
4. Do you blog about something specific, or a little bit of everything?
I blog about my life with deafness as well as news that affect those who have hearing loss.
5. Why do you blog?
I like putting my voice out there. Audiologists and hearing aid manufacturers just don’t advertise to the twenty-something set when it comes to their hearing. I wanted my 24-year-old self heard.
Mine is new. I’ve been posting interesting articles about China and Africa, with some commentary. Right now it’s looking pretty critical, but that’s not at all my intention. Feel free to visit and comment!
This week: Harlan Ellison at a fan convention in ‘74, comic book fish people, shantyboat, female affection, Ethel Smith (organist extraordinaire), tent lighting, the Pittsburgh flood of 1907, Dolly Parton, dinosaurs (put together wrong), sailors’ kisses, atomic photography, horse stunts, high flips, dancing soldiers, and man sized steaks.
3a. comments are the best part
3b. link away!
I post photos and other images that are found around the web, with full credit/context info if I can find it, and my own response as a caption. I try to stay far away from images that are already “making the rounds”, although sometimes I fail at that.
I blog because it’s fun and because I like the comments.
Dinerwood- So Cal Diner, Coffee Shop and Breakfast Joint Reviews.
What have you blogged about this week? If you haven’t blogged this week, does the last question make you feel vaguely guilty?
I updated it last week. I try to do it at least once every two weeks. The last review was for a great coffee shop called The Way Station.
3a. Are comments from Doper visitors okay?
Yes. Comments let me know I’m not just whistling into the wind.
3b. Do you mind links from other Dopers’ blogs to yours?
Nope. If it’s a similar theme even better.
Do you blog about something specific, or a little bit of everything?
specific.
Why do you blog?
I originally started the blog just to keep myself writing. Now, I feel like I’m actually doing something relatively unique in food blogging and a tiny bit important. I’m still learning a lot about the history and other important aspects of the whole ‘diner culture’ and I hope that someday my blog is as much about that as it is a food review blog.
We get to count last week as this week, since it’s only Monday right? I posted an excerpt from one of my stories.
2b. Vaguely guilty? I can go months without posting, but since no one comments I try not to feel too bad. I keep meaning to start posting regularly, but I have a hard time.
3a. All comments are welcome, even trolling / flaming (it amuses me)
3b. Links are awesome.
I write about whatever interests me. I’m working on moving most of the comment to my website ( www.curiouslylydean.net ) and I’ll be using the blog to keep track of what’s been updated. I’m using Lileks.com as inspiration, although the content is going to be completely different.
I’m an attention whore? I do a lot of creative stuff and I’d like to share it. I also comment on comics and would like it to amuse people besides just myself.
It’s a blog about houseplants, and to a much smaller degree, outdoor gardening.
**2. What have you blogged about this week? If you haven’t blogged this week, does the last question make you feel vaguely guilty?
**
I most recently blogged on Saturday, about some new plants I purchased. I feel guilty if I go too many days without posting. Twice a week is the minimum I feel comfortable with.
3a. Are comments from Doper visitors okay?
Sure. All comments are welcome.
3b. Do you mind links from other Dopers’ blogs to yours?
No. Although my topic is not one of particularly wide interest, so I certainly don’t expect any.**
Do you blog about something specific, or a little bit of everything?**
I try to relate everything to plants somehow, so I seldom get off topic.
5. Why do you blog?
I enjoy photographing and writing about plants. And while I’m not one for social networking, I do like having a little bit of “me” out there on the web.
I bake and I knit, and I (occasionally…) blog about it!
2. What have you blogged about this week? If you haven’t blogged this week, does the last question make you feel vaguely guilty?
Oh, it’s been a while since I posted - I just get so busy. And yes, I do feel guilty.
3a. Are comments from Doper visitors okay?
Definitely!
**
3b. Do you mind links from other Dopers’ blogs to yours?**
Nope! Link away!
**
4. Do you blog about something specific, or a little bit of everything?**
It’s pretty specific: baking and knitting. I suppose if I posted more frequently I would be likely to get off topic, but it hasn’t been a problem so far.
**
5. Why do you blog?**
Well, I read a lot of blogs, and I liked the idea of having a record of what I’d made and what I thought of it. But I read so many really great food blogs that I feel some weird pressure to WRITE and write well, which I don’t have a lot of time for. Therefore, I don’t post as much as I’d like to.
I’m thinking about changing my format to less “article-photos-recipe” and more “photos-recipe-notes on recipe.” I think I would post more.
I love doing a blog; I just wish I had more time for it. I like including a lot of pictures, mostly because I like taking them and I think they make the blog prettier and more interesting, but all that means even more time. I like writing about my busy life, but since it IS so busy, I am finding less and less time to keep it up!
I started because I missed writing so much. Yes, I write for a living, but I like writing for myself and listening to what I can create from my own imagination. I’ve spent my whole life interviewing other people. Now I’m interviewing me. Well, sometimes. Mostly it’s my family’s foibles. So far they haven’t seemed to mind.
I think I’ve only had time for one post this month, which is extremely sad. I’d love if Dopers were kind enough to read or comment. It’s sort of a Life As I See It blog with no discernible topic, other than what’s on my mind at the moment. I hope to get around to writing about orthodontics and the tyranny of punctuation soon, so check back often.
