I’d like to find some new music and this thread seemed like a good way to get a wide range of suggestions.
Jazz piano: Thelonious Monk, Jacky Terrasson, Chucho Valdes.
Lots of 1920’s and 1930’s jazz and pop at the moment: Irving Aaronson, Al Jolson, Marion Harris, Sophie Tucker, Aileen Stanley, etc.
Ke$ha…who else?
In late 2012, Emma Hewitt released two albums: Burn the Sky Down and Starting Fires. I regret that it took me this long to discover them. I can’t get enough.
Emma Hewitt is known as a trance vocalist (trance is a type of electronic dance music) and has done the vocals for many of the top producers. These two albums will probably never be played at any clubs (although the remixes will). Burn the Sky Down is a collection of ethereal/pop electronic songs and Starting Fires is a collection of beautiful acoustic numbers. There is a bit of overlap between them and they are both great.
Some samples:
Acoustic
Emma Hewitt - Light (Acoustic Version)
Dash Berlin ft. Emma Hewitt - Waiting (Strings & Vocals Mix)
Electronic:
Emma Hewitt - Colours (Original Mix)
Emma Hewitt - Foolish Boy (Original Mix)
Three I am listening alot to recently
Devil Makes Three
Hurray For The Riff Raff
Lorde
It’s deep minimal house music, the guys called Hot Natured, it’s basically a collaboration of Lee Foss and Jamie Jones and I love both these guys.
Enter the Haggis. Their new album was written about the stories in particular day’s newspaper. Great musicians and great guys.
A lot of The Replacements since I just got to see them play a few nights ago. Incredible show.
I’m listening to Wing Beat Fantastic by Mike Keneally & Andy Partridge. Not quite as good as a new XTC album, but close.
It’s not to be taken seriously, it’s just a fun, lightweight song, but I really like the new song by the K-Pop group Girls Generation called “Galaxy Supernova”.. The chorus is really catchy, in fact it brings me close to euphoria.
The group is Korean but this song is actually in Japanese and English.
