Beatles bump. “Help” is on its way tomorrow…
I’m really surprised to see zero votes for “What You’re Doing”!
Damn! I was gonna go for that, and then decided I wanted “I’ll Follow the Sun” to place higher and figured my vote would do better there. Consider me a virtual vote for “WYD.”
(I was just listening to George Martin’s Love mashup of “Drive My Car,” “The Word,” “Taxman” and of course, “What You’re Doing.” So much awesome it almost explodes my speakers.)
Gotta admit I don’t understand all the “Eight Days A Week” love. It’s one of the few Beatles songs I find totally boring and repetitive. I’d rather listen to “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road” or “You Know My Name, Look Up the Number.”
This was difficult for me. I think this is a hugely underrated album. I live it for the great vocal harmonies — the band were really hitting it vocally at this time. I chose “I Don’t Want to Spoil the Party” for the great harmonies between John and Paul, and for those wonderfully Lennonish chord changes. Runner-up was probably “Kansas City.”
