What's the best way for a bad tanner to get a mild tan?

I don’t go out in the sun much, but since I lost quite a bit of weight I’m now enjoying wearing shorts (cooler, more comfortable than pants on hot days). My only problem is, I’ve got Casper the Friendly Ghost legs and I can’t seem to do anything about it. I don’t want to lay out and get a tan (that never seemed to work for me as a teenager, though I admit I never had the patience to do it for very long), I definitely don’t want to go to one of those UV tanning places, and if I use sunless tanner I want something that won’t make me look like a streaky Oompa Loompa. The little time I spend in shorts outside on weekends isn’t doing the job.

I have a mild acceptable tan on my arms, and that’s all I really want on my legs. Just enough so I don’t blind people. Any suggestions for the best (and quickest) way to do that? Thanks in advance!

Mystic Tan for those of us with casper genes. Stays on for extended periods of time. Looks absolutely real, and no UV worries.

Looks interesting! I wonder if you can just do it on your legs, though. That looks like a full-body thing, which I really have no need for (I tend to keep anything that isn’t arms, lower legs, or head covered. )

At the taning place I go to you can do specific parts of your body. You are standing in a booth and a small mist comes over you. I cover my head when I do go to have it done. It certainly wouldn’t hurt…

If you are paying for Mystic Tan, just go for the whole shebang. You will be amazed how much thinner your torso looks when it is tanned.

Self tanner is also an option (but Mystic is def. pretty fool-proof). I use Neutrogena’s foam stuff. It works quite well, but there is an art to self tanning. If you’d like, I could offer it up; otherwise- Enjoy the Mysic Tan!

I have Caspar genes too. I’m 100% Irish with red hair, scary-white skin, and freckles. I’m slightly darker than Golum. I get a sunburn if I stand too close to a 25-watt bulb. Luckily, I have a husband who manages a salon and day spa (and is a massage therapist to boot, yay for me!).

They have a spray-on tan there, don’t know the brand name, but it only has a teeny bit of color in it to show the person who’s applying it that it’s on evenly. After that, it oxidizes your skin (kinda like a cut apple turns brown when left to the air) for a tan that looks like it came from the sun, with no UV exposure. It doesn’t turn orange and it doesn’t turn freaky-dark either. You won’t look like someone left you in the microwave too long.

If you can’t find a salon in your area that uses that stuff or if you don’t feel like paying for it (it can be kinda spendy), I’ve found that the Neutrogena Build-A-Tan stuff works pretty good too.

Thanks, all! The Mystic/spray-on thing sounds really cool, but probably more effort/price than I really want to expend, especially if it’s something you have to re-do at regular intervals. I will definitely keep it in mind if I want a good all-over tan, though, since nothing else seems to work.

I think I’ll give the Neutrogena a try, since it got two recommendations and I can do it at home. Thanks!
