Why Don't My Legs Tan Fast?

Why don’t my legs tan as fast as the rest of my body? And how can I even it out?

I’ve never been able to figure that out. I had the same problem when I was a sun worshipper. I’d go with the spray-on tan that so many salons are carrying now. It’s not all that expensive and it’s really natural looking and long lasting. You have it done in layers, so you can go as light or dark as you want.

My personal theory about the no-tan legs situation is that your legs get much mroe sporadic sun than the rest of you. Your arms, face, and shoulders can get sun just walking around. But, even in shorts, your legs are partially shielded from the sun. You only get really direct sunlight when laying out. But it’s only a theory…

I’m considering Mystic Tan. However, I have a few concerns. From their site:

HOW MANY MYSTIC TAN TANNING SESSIONS WILL I NEED TO ACHIEVE THE COLOR I WANT?
You’ll be tan after one session, but it may take additional sessions to achieve your desired color. Once you reach your ideal color, you should be able to maintain it by tanning every four to five days.

From what I’ve seen here, it’s about $50 Canadian ($38 US) for one session. I feel that I’m misunderstanding something. Surely, it can’t be $8/day to keep up the tan. Though I have seen an offer for Face & Neck for $10 (but not MT). I read through their FAQ and haven’t anything about doing specific areas.

Also, their site says that you don’t turn orange. A friend of mine who works in scheduling at the casino said that a girl had to schedule a week’s vacation because she was orange from the stuff. I’m not sure if it was Mystic Tan, but it was a spray tan for sure.
My other alternative is the “tan accelerators” offered in the salons. They seem too good to be true, though. And they’re very expensive.

I’m trying to figure out why I have this problem in the first place. Will they ever even out?

I’d have to agree with tremorviolet. A person’s legs are more on the move than the upper body. Plus, depending on how hairy a person is could be a contributing factor.

I have the same problem. I went to Egypt and gave up wearing sun-tan lotion on my legs on the second day. At the end of the holiday they were still white!

I would agree with Tremorviolet and Greenhead, except that I’m using a tanning salon. All even exposure. Unless my legs in the summer aren’t exposed as much, therefore don’t tan as well now.

It’s my cityslicker’s version of a farmer’s tan!
