I’ve noticed lately there are some posters that as soon as they sign up, they get banned.

And a few others.
I know it has to be related to the pit, where hence, I rarely go.

Concrete was banned for being an ass. The other(s) were just the latest sock puppet parade.

While I agree it has been pretty irritating around here recently due to all of the idiotic sock-puppetry, I hardly think there is any discord amongst Dopers. If anything, I would say that there is more unity and comradery among dopers than in recent memory. It looks like all of the long-term dopers and the promising new members are pretty united in their views and feelings regarding the genetic anomalies that are burning out their last few neurons in an attempt to either be kewl or disruptive.
I must be dumb… What do you mean by “sock-puppetry”? It’s not a term I’m at all familiar with, other than when my 3 year old daughter wants her dad to play with her.

The conservative usage of “Sock Puppet” is for a false UserName specifically created to agree with arguments made by your regular UserName. Thus, when you feel embattled because everyone’s saying you’re insane for arguing that, oh, say, George McClellan was the greatest general of the Civil War, you can pull out one of your Sock Puppets to post to the thread and agree with you and/or attack your opponents; generally, such puppetry is used to confuse the issue or to make it look like popular opinion is on your side.
There has been some expansion of the term here on this board; some people have (in the past, before it was made specifically illegal because of abuse by those creating (conervative-definition) sock puppets) created ‘extra’ names to post under for humor value (having GOD give his thoughts on certain threads, or take people to task for using his name in vain; Santa showed up last Christmas, as well), and these ‘extra’ names were called sock puppets.
Now, in the most liberal usage of the term, ‘sock puppets’ refer to the ten to fifteen names that some trolls on this board create upon signing up; as soon as one name gets banned, the troll pulls a new name from his reserve pile and continues his rampage.
You would really have to go to the pit and read for a while to understand it all Shirly, we have had a recent infestation of trolls, sock-puppets and email terrorist lately.

Okay… I’ll reveal my status as a newbie, though my post count is evidence enough…
If these people get banned, why then do I sometimes find posts that list the poeple as banned? Are the stats all linked and updated, no matter how old the post, because, surely, one cannot post with the same name after being banned…
Also… beneath the space where we actually write our posts, following the sig option button, there is a disclaimer that “only registered users may have sigs.” Don’t you have to register to post? 
I’m not much of a hacker, if you couldn’t tell…
