What's the deal with arroz chaufa?

I’ve never been to Peru, but every Peruvian restaurant I’ve been to in America sells arroz chaufa, or fried rice. It’s basically a version of Chinese fried rice using ingredients found in a Peruvian kitchen plus soy sauce.

So what’s the deal? Is this a regular dish in Peru? Where did it come from? etc…

Peru does have a small but important Asian minority, both Japanese and Chinese (Even had a Japanese-ethnic President once, Alberto Fujimori), so maybe that’s why.
